With the release of a no-holds-barred review of the last 12 months at Sheffield Wednesday, it has emerged that Dejphon Chansiri got one player so angry that he wanted to punch the Owls chairman.
All summer, the story of Sheffield Wednesday and Dejphon Chansiri has been one of the most talked-about and chaotic narratives in the EFL.
The Wednesday chief has plunged the club into crisis due to financial mismanagement, and he’s been shockingly silent on the whole matter.
But, plenty of home truths have now emerged, including how the Independent Football Regulator plans to deal with Chansiri. Still, it sounds like one Owls star wanted to deal with him in a very different way at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

What happened at the end of 2023/24 season in Sheffield Wednesday dressing room?
It’s already been revealed that Chansiri angered coaches at the club when he ranted at them for spoiling a 23-match unbeaten run when they were in League One.
Now, a report from The Times outlines a situation at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, when the Owls stayed up after a miraculous recovery under Danny Rohl, that saw Chansiri almost provoke a player into physically attacking him in the dressing room.
It’s said Chansiri walked into the dressing room on the final day after a win away to Sunderland and rather than speak openly to the team, he simply shook the hands of Rohl, captain Barry Bannan, and veteran Liam Palmer.
As Chansiri walked out of the room, it’s said one player “had to be restrained” by staff and muttered the words, “I want to deck him”. The Sheffield Wednesday chairman didn’t hear this, and it is thought Chansiri only left so swiftly because he didn’t want to disturb the players’ celebrations.
It is not known who the player was who made the remark or whether they are even still at the club now. Given the amount of outgoings at Sheffield Wednesday this summer, it’s likely they have left.

Dejphon Chansiri silence is a bigger issue now
While Chansiri not saying an awful lot back in 2024 may have wound the players up, the fact he has said absolutely nothing this summer about the mess he has created has really angered the Owls fans.
Rob Staton believes Chansiri doesn’t want to sell, and that’s why he’s ignoring all the takeover talk from supporters.
The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust have made demands to Chansiri that he starts to discuss more openly the whole process and invites fans and reporters in for his upcoming meeting as part of the Engagement Panel with the club.
All the fans really want, aside from a sense of normalcy, is some semblance of transparency and communication. That doesn’t seem to be coming any time soon, sadly.
