Millwall’s dream XI after summer transfer window with three more signings needed

Add as preferred source on Google

Millwall are slowly but surely putting together a very impressive squad, and three more additions this summer could put them right in the reckoning for a promotion push.

After a sluggish start in 2024/25 under Neil Harris, Millwall made the decision to change manager, putting Alex Neil in charge.

That decision proved to be the right one, clearly, as the Lions climbed the table and ended up finishing just shy of the play-off places last term.

As we look ahead to the 2025/26 Championship campaign, we do fancy Millwall to be dark horses once more, but they’ll need a few more signings first.

Three more signings needed for Millwall’s dream XI this summer

Steven Benda

With first-choice goalkeeper Lukas Jensen out injured, Neil made the decision to bring in some experience between the sticks this summer. Fulham’s Steven Benda has joined on loan until the end of the season, and will be the new number one for Millwall.

Alfie Gilchrist

Next, we line up one of the three new players Millwall need. While retaining Zak Sturge on loan from Chelsea is a great move (more on him soon), the Lions need balance on the right and they can tap up their London neighbours again on that front.

Alfie Gilchrist has been linked with Middlesbrough and Coventry City already, but Millwall could steal a march and grab him instead.

Japhet Tanganga

Alex Neil made it clear Japhet Tanganga is not for sale, and keeping the big defender could be the best bit of business Millwall do all summer. He’s one of the top defenders in the division, effective in both boxes, and a real leader, too.

Jake Cooper

Alongside Tanganga is the experienced Millwall defender Jake Cooper. There’s a good chance he gets given the captain’s armband in the wake of Shaun Hutchinson’s departure, and it would be well-deserved, too.

Zak Sturge

We mentioned earlier that Millwall have borrowed Zak Sturge for another season, and he’s a great acquisition on the left side of defence. He only just got going at the back end of last season, and could emerge as one of the best youngsters in the Championship in 2025/26.

Casper De Norre

Casper De Norre really makes things tick in the middle of the park for Millwall. The Belgian midfielder is a workhorse who helps to anchor the team and is a very reliable head for Neil to build his system around.

Alfie Devine

However, Millwall do need someone with a bit more dynamism and creativity alongside De Norre, and Alfie Devine would be ideal. Reports last week suggested Millwall want the Spurs youngster, and he’s already proven he can cut it at Championship level after a loan spell with Plymouth Argyle back in 2023/24.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

The departure of George Honeyman to Blackpool could hurt Millwall, and they need a new right winger to replace him. The trouble is, a lot of clubs are looking for a similar player, but Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is available, and a potential move to Rangers just fell through. Time to swoop!

Mihailo Ivanovic

With 12 goals last season, Mihailo Ivanovic is one of the most important players in the Millwall squad. Wolves are keen on the Serbian striker, but Millwall have made it clear he wouldn’t be cheap. Alex Neil will be desperate to keep him, and he could get even better in 2025/26 now he’s settled in the EFL.

Alfie Doughty

Millwall’s big signing of the summer so far is Alfie Doughty from Luton Town. Millwall fans are delighted, and rightly so. Doughty comes with Premier League experience and is one of the best left-sided players in the division. Not to overstate it, but he absolutely transforms Alex Neil’s team.

Josh Coburn

Speaking of big transfers, Millwall broke their transfer record to sign Josh Coburn from Middlesbrough this summer. He bagged five goals in 20 games last season, and like Ivanovic, should be capable of even more this term.
