Sheffield United could take advantage of Sheffield Wednesday situation amid Bailey Cadamarteri bid

Following Sheffield United’s shock bid for Wednesday forward Bailey Cadamarteri, the Blades could follow up with an offer that makes sense for both parties.

Sheffield United’s start to the season has been disastrous, with the Blades still awaiting their first point of the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Ruben Selles has been unable to live up to the levels set by his predecessor, Chris Wilder, and as a result, pressure is beginning to mount on the Spaniard.

Across the Steel City lies another winless Championship side in Sheffield Wednesday, who have encountered their own unique problems in the past couple of months.

As Sheffield Wednesday continue to suffer under the stewardship of unpopular owner Dejphon Chansiri, the Owls could be exploited by their inter-city rivals, who could offer a too-good-to-turn-down deal for their prized striker.

Sheffield United could send an improved offer to Wednesday for Bailey Cadamarteri

As reported by The Star, Sheffield United have offered a bid in the region of £1m for the services of Bailey Cadamarteri from Wednesday.

Sheffield United are one of a number of Championship clubs showing interest in the Owls striker, with it also being revealed that Ipswich Town and Preston North End are also keen.

Cadamarteri has also been linked to Blackburn Rovers as clubs continue to circle the Sheffield Wednesday talents amid their financial issues.

Whilst the initial offer sent by the Blades was not entertained, Sheffield United could easily sweeten the deal by going in for an improved bid, which includes a loan back to Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has concerns over the short-term depth in his squad, but that would be rectified if they had the assurance of keeping Cadamarteri until the end of 2025/26 following a move to United.

Of course, there is the glaring factor that Sheffield Wednesday supporters may not take kindly to one of their own coming back after signing for their noisy neighbours.

Bailey Cadamarteri must stay at Sheffield Wednesday to fulfil his ‘dream’

Following an injury-hit spell on loan at Lincoln City last season, Bailey Cadamarteri is back up and running for Sheffield Wednesday, having opened up his account with a goal against Wrexham.

He continues to show promise at Sheffield Wednesday, despite the club’s issues, and has so far overshadowed experienced Championship forwards Ike Ugbo and Jamal Lowe.

As any youngster does, Cadamarteri has dreams to fulfil in his career, which include reaching the Premier League.

“It’s everyone’s dream to represent your country and win the World Cup,” he said to Sky Sports in December 2024.

“But in the shorter term I’d love to beat my dad’s legacy. He played in the Premier League and scored a few goals, so if I can go on and do better than him I think I’ll have done well.”

If Cadamarteri wants to reach the stars, he needs guaranteed gametime at Championship level, and the place he is most likely to receive that is in S6, where he is currently favoured by Henrik Pedersen.
