Sheffield Wednesday have made progress in one area of their ongoing financial distress under Dejphon Chansiri.
The off-season has been chaotic for Sheffield Wednesday since the 2024/25 Championship season drew to its conclusion.
Back in March, Sheffield Wednesday players were paid late by Dejphon Chansiri, something that would spiral into a major issue following the season. Whilst the issue was resolved days later in March, that wasn’t the case after the May payments were due.
For a couple of weeks, players and staff were left in the dark about the money they were owed. Sheffield Wednesday supporters even decided to raise funds for the non-playing staff, as no end was in sight to the financial trouble.
Fortunately, progress has been made by Chansiri, who has now paid the backroom staff what they were owed.
Now, reports are coming in that progress continues, but that doesn’t necessarily mean an end to the turmoil.

Selection Sheffield Wednesday players receive payment but imminent issue awaits Dejphon Chansiri
In a report by The Star, some Sheffield Wednesday players have now been paid their overdue payments. There is still no confirmation as to whether the full Owls squad have been paid just yet.
This news arrives over two weeks after wages for May were initially due. The delay has led to Sheffield Wednesday players even posting cryptic messages on social media.
The progress made by Chansiri was ultimately well received, but looming over Sheffield Wednesday is the prominent issue of next payments, which are due at the end of the current month.
Sheffield Wednesday owner Chansiri will have just a two-week turnover before all staff and players will need to be paid, and based on the delays this month, there is understandably plenty of uncertainty looming over S6 as a result.

Dejphon Chansiri will soon run out of quick fixes for ongoing payment issues
Whilst it is uncertain where Sheffield Wednesday owner Chansiri found the funds to pay staff and some of the players, there is the potential that it may have come from the likely sale of Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri, who looks set to move to Manchester City for a seven-figure fee.
Like with Cadamarteri, Chansiri is clearly holding out for Rohl’s release clause to further help with the financial issues, but Sheffield Wednesday don’t have many more assets to cash in on.
It looks as though, based on recent months, Chansiri’s tenure doesn’t look sustainable from a financial standpoint, and such issues with payments should really be a wake-up call for the Thai businessman to review any potential options on who could take over the club.
