Three Kwame Poku alternatives Birmingham City could sign including seven-goal Championship star

Kwame Poku is one player on Birmingham City’s wishlist ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Peterborough United winger has lit up League One in the past few seasons with his dancing feet and keen eye for goal, notching 12 goals and eight assists for the Posh in 2024/25.

Chris Davies is looking to add firepower to his front line in the Championship, and Poku emerged as an option on Birmingham’s radar.

But despite the 23-year-old seeing his contract expire, the Blues would have to pay compensation as he doesn’t turn 24 till August. Peterborough’s Director of Football, Barry Fry, has slapped a £10 million price tag on Poku, who also has interest from Rangers.

Considering he can leave on a free transfer in August, the third-tier side are shooting themselves in the foot, and as a result, Birmingham could look at three alternatives to the Ghanaian.

Three players Birmingham City could sign instead of Kwame Poku

Tyrhys Dolan

There are plenty of exciting wingers currently playing in the Championship, and Blackburn Rovers star Tyrhys Dolan epitomises that in abundance.

In 2024/25, the 23-year-old amassed seven goals and six assists in the second tier, becoming one of the division’s most prolific wide men.

Blackburn want to give Dolan a new contract, as his current one expires in June, while Middlesbrough are leading the race for Dolan.

Instead of holding out for Poku, perhaps Birmingham should look to sign Dolan on a free transfer this summer to accelerate their promotion push.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is another young winger who caused havoc in the Championship and could now be snapped up permanently.

Sheffield United signed the Crystal Palace youngster on loan for the campaign, where he’s scored seven goals and supplied two assists in 34 matches.

Ahead of Sheffield United’s play-off final clash against Sunderland, the 22-year-old will hope to make one more vital contribution before he returns to Selhurst Park.

But with his chances of making the first team under Oliver Glasner increasingly low, Palace are reportedly open to selling the winger, and he’s certainly someone that should take Birmingham’s fancy.

Tyreece Campbell

There is some incredible talent plying their trade lower down the EFL including Charlton Athletic winger Tyreece Campbell.

The Englishman has offered the Addicks a bundle of pace, skill and energy down the left flank this term, the sort of attributes that have inspired Charlton to reach the League One play-off final.

Should they fail to beat Leyton Orient in Sunday’s final, Campbell is destined for a Championship move after terrorising defences in the third tier.

A haul of nine goals doesn’t sound impressive on paper, but joining a star-studded Birmingham attack could elevate his game to new heights.
