West Brom could benefit massively in the summer transfer window if they were to bring in Marti Cifuentes.

The 2024/25 Championship season has ended in rather lacklustre fashion for West Brom, who find themselves out of the running for a play-off spot with one game remaining of the campaign.

A decision was made to relieve Tony Mowbray of his duties at West Brom, which fans believed was in the best interest of all parties.

Since then, the Baggies have wasted no time in sounding out any potential suitors to lead them to an expected play-off push next season, and one man is Marti Cifuentes from QPR.

What we know about West Brom pursuit for QPR boss Marti Cifuentes

On Sunday, reports emerged, via Sky Sports transfer expert Dharmesh Sheth on X, that a Championship club had held talks with Cifuentes over becoming their boss next season, with it further materialising that it was West Brom making the move for the Spaniard.

This comes after West Brom were linked with Tottenham Hotspur coach Ryan Mason, who was reportedly on the Baggies’ shortlist.

It will be no surprise to see further names come to fruition over the next week as West Brom look to sound out Mowbray’s successor, but Cifuentes appears to be in the driving seat at this moment.

Three players who Marti Cifuentes could snatch from QPR if he joined the Baggies

The first player that Cifuentes would no doubt be keen to take with him on his travels, if he was to move club, is QPR centre-back Jimmy Dunne.

The Irish defender, who can be utilised efficiently as a jobbing right-back, as well as at centre-half, has been a stalwart for the R’s this season, missing just one game of the 2024/25 Championship season. With a wealth of Championship experience, as well as a goal threat from set-pieces, having bagged five goals this season, Dunne would no doubt be a top signing at the Hawthorns.

Elsewhere, another player that Cifuentes could bring with him is Kenneth Paal, another defender, but is used down the left-flank.

The Surinamese international has a talent for both his defensive responsibilities, whilst also holding a potent threat on the break, often bombing down the left channel before whipping in crosses.

Finally, a name that has been well-revered at Loftus Road for some time, Ilias Chair. The 27-year-old attacking midfielder has shown consistency at Championship level, and whilst it hasn’t been his best season in blue & white hoops, the Moroccan international still has six assists to his name.

The appointment of Cifuentes would certainly be a plus for the Baggies at the moment, as there is no doubt that he has the Championship experience needed, on top of the desire to strive forward in his managerial career.
