Sheffield Wednesday have had a disastrous 2025, and while they remain a Championship team, off-field issues are already setting them up for a tough season.
Danny Rohl has upset his Owls players by saying that he wants to return to work for the club, despite previously explaining that he will leave Hillsborough.
Meanwhile, Dejphon Chansiri will hand over £4m worth of footballing debt to the next owner as Sheffield Wednesday continue to work under a three-window transfer ban.
There is now a wait for supporters with a takeover of the Owls reportedly agreed and for Barry Bannan it can’t come soon enough as he looks to continue in S6, 10 years after joining the club.

Barry Bannan has achieved what he set out to at Sheffield Wednesday
After struggling for minutes at Crystal Palace, the midfielder joined Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2015 on a one-year deal.

Bannan had spent the end of the previous campaign on loan at Bolton Wanderers in the Championship, but he was ready to find a more settled home where he could become the focal point in the team.
He took to social media to express how happy he was to join the Owls after making just 27 appearances in two years for the Eagles. The now 35-year-old said (via: X): “Glad to have joined @swfc on a permanent transfer today new start and glad to be going somewhere to play regular football and a fresh start.”
A fresh start it was, and the midfielder has made 447 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday in the last 10 years, and he is keen to continue.
Barry Bannan still has more Owls history to write
While he is in the final years of his playing days, there is no doubt about Bannan’s place in the club’s modern history.
The 35-year-old is keen to stay at Hillsborough, although Wrexham have shown an interest in the Scottish ace. Nevertheless, his experience will be key for Wednesday in 2025/26, especially if a younger squad is needed due to their financial problems.
Bannan has been a stable figure throughout Chansiri’s ownership, and fans will be fearing the day he calls it quits on the pitch.
