Birmingham City have big plans for next season after securing their return to the Championship.

Chris Davies’ side smashed the League One points record as the Blues instantly returned to the second tier and have been working hard to get their squad ready to compete.

Tom Wagner has said promotion is the aim for Birmingham and it’s no surprise to see that they are linked with some big name talents.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has been tipped to join the Blues meanwhile Kwame Poku is also wanted by Birmingham.

Their most ambitious transfer could be the return of Demarai Gray to St Andrews, with Al Ettifaq reportedly prepared to sell him for £8m.

That would still be a sizeable fee and there could be an alternative for half the price.

Sontje Hansen tipped to join Birmingham City after rejecting Burnley in January

According to Sky Sports, Birmingham are interested in signing Dutch winger Sontje Hansen.

Hansen, 23, has been in impressive form for NEC Nijmegen this season, registering 11 goals and assists from 34 Eredivisie games.

The wide man was linked with Burnley back in January but they chose to sign Marcus Edwards instead.

With two years remaining on his deal and a clear plan to get to the Premier League, Hansen would be a big upgrade on the options already at the club.

Transfermarkt also value him at £4m, which is half the price of what Gray could cost.

Sontje Hansen was once wanted by Manchester City

Hansen is one of the many players to come off the conveyor belt of talent at Ajax but couldn’t make it into the first team.

He won the golden boot at the Under-17 World Cup in 2019 and was seen as the perfect option to bolster Pep Guardiola’s options out wide.

That move never materialised and after losing his way, has begun to rediscover the form he showed when he first started out in the professional game.
