Burnley have secured promotion to the Premier League now, and in an EFL Analysis exclusive, we can reveal that they are ready to secure a crucial and very expensive signing to prepare them for the top flight.

In a thrilling encounter at Turf Moor on Monday night, Burnley defeated promotion rivals Sheffield United 2-1 to confirm a top-two spot and land a place in the Premier League for the 2025/26 campaign.

That’s now a third promotion for Scott Parker, who takes the Clarets back to the top flight at the first time of asking after a relentless season of success.

With the gulf between the Premier League and Championship bigger than ever, though, Burnley will need to ensure they get everything right in the transfer market this summer.

On that front, EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that Burnley have already earmarked their number one priority for the summer, and fans will be delighted if they can pull it off.

Burnley are desperate to keep Josh Brownhill

Josh Brownhill was the star of the show for Burnley against Sheffield United, with two more goals to add to his impressive tally this season and secure the crucial three points for his team.

However, Brownhill is out of contract in June, and plenty of clubs have already contacted the Burnley skipper about a summer move.

Now, we can exclusively reveal thanks to our own transfer expert, Graeme Bailey, that Burnley are preparing to tie him down to a new deal and stave off interest from elsewhere.

Bailey said: “Burnley are ready to make a club record offer to try and keep captain Josh Brownhill at the club. Brownhill has held talks with a host of clubs both domestically and on the continent in recent weeks.

“The 29-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding campaign with 16 goals and five assists. Burnley have had to wait until their place in the Premier League was sealed but now they are hoping they can make a late move to try and keep their talisman at the club.

“Sources close to the player confirm that he will listen to Burnley’s offer, but at this point it will be tough for them to keep him. There are numerous clubs who will be playing European football next term, who want him and have made offers.”

Brownhill hinted at playing Premier League football with Burnley next season in his post-match comments after the win over Sheffield United, but it will now be a tense wait for Clarets fans to see whether their standout player sticks around.

Keeping Josh Brownhill could be Burnley’s best signing this summer

With the Championship title prize money within touching distance, Burnley will have ample resources to recruit in the summer and prepare for a relegation fight in the top flight.

But, there will arguably no more important signing than retaining Josh Brownhill at this point. Having a player who understands the club and is the beating heart of the team depart would be a massive blow, and he’s exactly the kind of player they need next season.

While there are obviously better midfielders out there, Brownhill has established himself as the spine of this team, and it’s always difficult to replace someone like that.

We have to remember that new signings take time to bed in, and don’t always live up to what is expected of them, as the three promoted teams found out the hard way this season. Keeping hold of the tried-and-tested Brownhill would be massive for Burnley, and would give Scott Parker a solid foundation to build his squad around for the Premier League campaign.
