Middlesbrough are in the running to sign a Championship player but his current club have other plans.

Boro’s 2024/25 season ended in very disappointing fashion, dropping down to 10th place on the final day.

Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough future remains up in the air after he took the club to their lowest league finish of his tenure to date.

Meanwhile, some players could leave Boro this summer after they failed to make the play-offs and have a chance of Premier League promotion.

But while the mood around the club is despondent right now, the Teessiders have begun plans for the 2025 summer transfer window.

Blackburn offer Middlesbrough target Tyrhys Dolan new deal

Kieran Scott is being given a new deal by Steve Gibson after several years of identifying some top talent like Emmanuel Latte Lath and Rav van den Berg.

Meanwhile, we revealed earlier this month that Middlesbrough want Tyrhys Dolan and are leading the race for the Blackburn Rovers ace.

Blackburn fans think Dolan will leave them for money, after hearing of Boro’s interest.

Now, though, Rovers have confirmed this week, when announcing their retained list, that they have offered the forward a new contract.

They wrote on their official website: “Rovers have offered new contracts to first team trio Tyrhys Dolan, Danny Batth and Andi Weimann, as well as to Jake Batty and Felix Goddard, who both spent the 2024-25 season out on loan. Lorenze Mullarkey-Matthews has also been offered his first professional contract with the club.”

Middlesbrough make big contract call

It remains to be seen if Dolan will sign a new deal but our understanding is he will be leaving Blackburn.

Meanwhile, Boro have offered a contract of their own out to a star currently due to leave on June 30.

Middlesbrough fans want Jonny Howson to stay, with the ageing midfielder now offered fresh terms by the club to ensure he doesn’t depart for free next month.

One player who won’t be staying, however, is Anfernee Dijksteel, whose impending exit was announced last week.
