Nobody quite knows what Jamie Vardy’s next move will be, but EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that his potential return to Sheffield Wednesday is not something that should be ruled out just yet.
After a horrendous season in the Premier League for Leicester City, legendary striker Jamie Vardy announced he would be leaving the Foxes when his contract expires next month.
It was a sad moment for Leicester fans, of course, but the fact one of the most naturally-gifted forwards in the EFL will be available for free this summer has certainly got tongues wagging.
While Wrexham have been urged to sign Vardy this summer, and talk of a new adventure in the MLS has been mooted, the idea of Vardy heading back to Sheffield Wednesday is one that has been mentioned again and again.

How Jamie Vardy really feels about Sheffield Wednesday switch
We had previously broken the news that Vardy was open to joining Sheffield Wednesday this summer, before reports suggested he was keen to remain in the Premier League.
Now, thanks to exclusive information from our transfer expert Graeme Bailey, we can reveal that the dream return to Hillsborough is not completely off the table.
Bailey said: “We’ll see what happens with Vardy. I still think there’s a massive chance he ends up at Sheffield Wednesday.
“His people are pushing him to the Premier League. But you can push him all you want, but it’s pretty perfect for him to go to Sheffield Wednesday.
“Does he want to go and sit on the bench at Leeds and play five games? No. Obviously, he would rather be in the Premier League, and that was the whole thing when we mentioned this story before… Sheffield Wednesday want him, he would consider it, but he wants to go to the Premier League if he can.”
So, we can’t rule anything out at this stage. But, what’s next for Vardy in terms of actually making his decision?
Bailey added: “He’ll assess his options. I think he’ll come to the reasoning that, if he gets a two-year deal out of Sheffield Wednesday, or an option where, if he plays ten games or whatever, he gets another year, I still think there’s a real chance he ends up there. I do.
“He’s not getting first-team football off anyone. The one promoted team who would probably offer that to him is the one team he can’t join: Sheffield United.
“If he does go to Leeds, he will not be leading the line. And if Leeds did lead the line with Jamie Vardy, they’re getting relegated. I think Leeds are going to be better than that.
“Could he end up at West Ham? Possibly, but he’ll be a number two to whoever they sign. There’s no way he starts in the Premier League.
“But, he could go to Sheffield Wednesday and it’s sold as the hometown story, and then it’s not seen as a drop anyway, is it, really? So I still think there’s a good chance that happens.”

Jamie Vardy’s Leicester career by numbers
One Premier League title. One FA Cup win. And by this weekend, Jamie Vardy will have racked up 500 appearances for Leicester City. It’s been some career for a man who was still playing Non-League football in 2012.
Vardy will end his Leicester career this weekend to finish on that 500-mark, and just one more goal will take him to 200 goals for the Foxes, too, which would be very fitting.
It’s not surprising that Leicester fans are distraught to see Vardy leave, and likewise, it’s easy to see why Wednesday fans are so keen to see him return to S6.
He never did make a senior appearance for the Owls before being released all those years ago. Bringing his career full circle with one last dance at Hillsborough just feels right, doesn’t it?
