Leicester City submit bid for ‘reliable’ Bundesliga shot stopper but there is a catch

Leicester City have had a mixed start to life back in the Championship, as they have won two of their opening three fixtures in the division.

The Foxes were handed a boost on the future of Bilal El Khannouss, as his deal away from the club fell through, and it looks like he is set to remain at the club.

While this has been a boost, there appears to be a need for Leicester to sign a shot-stopper to fill the void that has been left by Mads Hermansen, who left the Foxes for West Ham.

Asmir Begovic did join the club this summer; however, he does not appear to be viewed as a long-term option in the position, and now Leicester have bid for an individual they want in that role.

Leicester City make a bid for Jonas Omlin

It has been reported on social media by Florian Plettenberg that Leicester City are after Jonas Omlin.

The journalist has reported that the goalkeeper is subject to a loan bid from the Foxes; however, his parent club, Borussia Monchengladbach, wants a buy option or obligation included.

However, the deal will not happen unless the Bundesliga club can confirm a replacement, as they are not willing to lose their keeper so close to the end of the transfer window.

Leicester City are looking to make a few signings before the close of the summer transfer market, and they have identified the goalkeeper position as a priority.

Borussia Monchengladbach believe he is a quality keeper

Omlin was brought into Borussia Monchengladbach to replace Yan Sommer after he moved to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023.

The Bundesliga club believed they signed an incredible keeper from Montpellier; however, the Swiss international has struggled since making the move to the German club.

This is particularly due to sustaining an injury during his time with the club, but there have been other issues too.

That is despite the club rating him highly when he was brought in, as Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus said to the Bundesliga website: “We believe we have found a very good solution by signing Jonas Omlin.

“He is a very reliable goalkeeper who exudes confidence, is strong on his line and is good with the ball at his feet.”
