Birmingham City are preparing to welcome their first arrival of the 2025 summer transfer window, with a manager having now said his goodbyes.

Birmingham City will be back honing their craft in the Championship for the 2025/26 season and a big summer is expected.

We learned earlier this year that Birmingham will have an aggressive transfer window as they look to compete in the second tier and potentially win promotion for the second season in a row.

Owner Tom Wagner hinted at a record signing being possible this summer as well, while one deal is already over the line.

Manager pens message to incoming Birmingham City signing Phil Neumann

It was confirmed in the January transfer window that Birmingham had agreed a pre-contract deal with Phil Neumann.

The player is out of contract at the end of June and was set to become a free agent until the Blues secured his services for free.

Neumann was on the books of German side Hannover 96, but will be departing for the Midlands next month.

With his time at Hannover coming to an end, interim manager Lars Barlemann has now commented, stating that ‘he will be missed’.

He said, as quoted by Bild: “He will be missed. Phil is a great character, has developed incredibly well, and has become a leading player for us.”

The German outlet report the player will get married in June before then linking up with his new team.

Birmingham City transfer latest

Neumann is not the only player who could arrive at St Andrew’s in the coming months.

Birmingham want Kwame Poku, who is now expected to leave Peterborough United for free this summer.

Elsewhere, Mark Travers is on Birmingham’s wishlist after he enjoyed an excellent spell in the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan in the Championship with Middlesbrough.

Boro are unlikely to retain Travers due to their previous number one shot-stopper, Sol Brynn, returning from injury.
