Wrexham have been busy in the transfer market this summer as they look to achieve their aim of maintaining their Championship status for next season.
Phil Parkinson and Wrexham have not had a fantastic start to their first campaign in the second tier for 43 years, as they have failed to win any of their opening three Championship fixtures.
The Red Dragons will be incredibly disappointed to have thrown away a 2-0 lead to end up drawing 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.
Wrexham have been linked to Jordan James as their next signing; however, Rio Ferdinand is surprised the club have not made a move for another player, one who has lifted the Premier League title previously.
Rio Ferdinand surprised Wrexham did not go after Jamie Vardy
The former Manchester United defender has recently been speaking about his surprise that Wrexham did not make a move to sign Jamie Vardy, with the veteran striker available on a free transfer.
Vardy left Leicester City at the end of last season and has since been linked to several clubs since departing the Foxes, with Celtic and Napoli being named, among others, as interested in his signing.
Speaking on his Rio Presents YouTube channel, he said: “As much as I love Jamie Vardy and I respect everything he’s done in the game, he’s not what Man United need right now. He’s just gone a bit too far over the hill to really be able to impact the team.
“You can’t bring someone in just to impact the changing room. He isn’t going to want to come there and just sit down and just chill. He wants to play football, with the type of person he is. As much as he’s got experience, it’s just not the right time.
“I can’t believe he’s not signed for Wrexham. Right now, I just think it would probably be more harmful for Vardy to come here [to Man Utd] for himself than it would benefit us.”
Wrexham don’t need another striker
While there may be some fanfare for a star striker like Jamie Vardy to join Wrexham, and it would probably help increase views for their docuseries, the Red Dragons already have several Championship-quality strikers on their books.
Wrexham already brought in Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass this summer, who have shown in their opening three matches just how dangerous they can be for the club this campaign.
| Club | Appearances | Goals | |
| Jay Rodriguez | Burnley and Wrexham | 39 | 4 |
| Sam Smith | Reading and Wrexham | 44 | 18 |
| Ollie Palmer | Wrexham | 31 | 3 |
| Jack Marriot | Wrexham | 10 | 4 |
| Kieffer Moore | Sheffield United | 30 | 6 |
| Josh Windass | Sheffield Wednesday | 47 | 13 |
| Nathan Broadhead | Ipswich Town | 21 | 2 |
| Ryan Hardie | Plymouth Argyle | 40 | 12 |
| Jamie Vardy | Leicester City | 36 | 10 |
Meanwhile, another two attackers they brought in this summer will likely have a significant impact: Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town and Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle.
Wrexham already had some incredible strikers from last season in their promotion winning side from League One, with Jay Rodriguez, Ollie Palmer, Sam Smith and Jack Marriott still in the squad.
