The Championship campaign starts in six days, and currently, Oli McBurnie is entering the new season without a club.

McBurnie left Las Palmas as a free agent in June following their relegation from La Liga, with the Scotsman fielding interest from multiple Championship clubs.

Despite being placed under a transfer embargo, Hull City have been strongly linked with the 29-year-old, who has scored 111 career goals.

Sergej Jakirovic is keen to bring him to the MKM Stadium, and on Thursday, it was revealed that Hull City sent a ‘lucrative’ offer McBurnie’s way in an attempt to land him.

However, it was previously reported that Swansea City were leading the race for McBurnie and with Sheffield United and Ipswich Town waiting in the wings, there remains a four-horse battle for his signature.

Sheffield United have submitted an ‘official offer’ for Oli McBurnie

With Kieffer Moore potentially joining Wrexham, Sheffield United have identified McBurnie as a possible option to replace him.

The maverick striker was once signed by the Blades for £20 million in 2019 after a standout campaign at Swansea and spent five years at Bramall Lane before leaving in 2024.

Ruben Selles is now keen on landing the striker ahead of their Championship rivals, and according to The Star journalist Danny Hall, United have submitted an ‘official offer’ for the centre-forward.

McBurnie will now have to decide which club to join ahead of the 2025/26 campaign kicking off, and currently, it is anyone’s guess who he will join.

Though with interest from recently relegated Ipswich Town and promotion hopefuls Sheffield United, it remains to be seen what his next move is.

McBurnie needs to recapture his best form

Hull were hopeful of landing McBurnie ahead of their second-tier rivals, but an official offer being lodged by Sheffield United could make things tougher.

The Tigers should avoid relegation by successfully capturing the Scotsman, as he’s someone capable of hitting incredible levels in the Championship.

McBurnie has 44 goals in 125 appearances in this division, including a 22-goal haul for Swansea during the 2018/19 campaign.

Should he recapture his best form, the aggressive striker is a great signing for any of the above clubs on a free transfer.

But as Hull were the division’s lowest scorers last term, they’ll be desperate to pull off a transfer coup ahead of some big clubs.
