Hull City have made further progress with their interest in Oli McBurnie, with Sheffield United and Swansea City now needing to respond.
Hull City are currently having to adhere to sanctions imposed by the EFL, which means that the Tigers are unable to spend fees in the summer transfer window.
Unlike Sheffield Wednesday, this has not hampered the spirit of the Tigers in the summer transfer window, who are keen to recruit heavily in spite of the restrictions.
The main priority for Hull City this summer has been bringing in a suitable striker to spearhead Sergej Jakirovic’s side, and Oli McBurnie has been identified as a perfect player to slot in for the Tigers.
Recent reports have suggested that Swansea City have been in the driving seat for a deal, but against all odds, Hull City’s position in the race has significantly improved.

Hull City send ‘lucrative’ offer to Oli McBurnie
As reported by the Hull Daily Mail, Hull City are prepared to offer a ‘long-term, lucrative deal’ to attain the services of Oli McBurnie this summer. It has also been reported that Swansea City have offered a three-year deal to their former striker.
Ipswich Town have ramped up interest in Oli McBurnie also, whilst Sheffield United are keen to sign their former forward, who played at Bramall Lane before a left-field move to La Liga outfit Las Palmas.
There is optimism on Hull City’s side that the EFL would approve a deal for McBurnie this summer, and it is likely that other Championship clubs interested in the Scotsman may have to match or better the Tigers’ offer.

What Sergej Jakirovic has said about Oli McBurnie
Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic has been vocal in his desire to sign a striker this summer, and such calls have snapped Acun Ilicali into action.
The Tigers managed to stay up in the 2024/25 Championship season despite being the lowest scorers in the league, and it is clear that a proven striker talent could help turn their fortunes around.
Oli McBurnie, in particular, has been regarded highly by Jakirovic, as the Hull City manager, following the win against Sunderland in pre-season, said: “I would like to have Oli McBurnie.
“He would bring everything that we need – leadership, experience, and he knows the Championship. Plus goals. I hope the goals; we need goals. I believe, yes (we can get it done). I believe that the EFL will help us.”
