Crystal Palace join transfer race with Championship clubs and Rangers to sign crucial Hull City star

Hull City have endured a testing transfer window, and the Tigers’ faithful will be desperate to see Acun Illicali shun Crystal Palace’s interest in a key figure.

Hull City are under a transfer embargo imposed by the EFL, meaning that the Tigers are restricted from paying transfer fees for players within the summer window.

With loan deals and free agents only available to the Tigers, Hull signed Akin Famewo from Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer, with more recruits set to arrive.

Hull are set to sign John Lundstram and Enis Destan after the immediate salary budget that the Tigers had been placed under has been removed.

However, despite the news turning in a positive favour for Hull, one in-demand Tigers star is now on the radar of Premier League Crystal Palace this summer.

Crystal Palace join race to sign Hull City defender Cody Drameh

Hull defender Cody Drameh has been the subject of transfer speculation throughout the summer window, with several European and EFL suitors interested.

Ligue 1 sides Toulouse and Stade Reims were tracking Drameh earlier this summer, after he was targeted for a French top flight move before joining the Tigers in 2024 from Leeds United.

Following that, it emerged that Derby County and Blackburn Rovers entered the Drameh race alongside Championship rivals Preston North End, with Hull Live then adding that Scottish Premier League giants Rangers were pushing to sign the full-back.

Now, it has emerged that top flight Crystal Palace have “joined the chase to sign Drameh”, alongside the aforementioned second tier sides and Rangers.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed on X: “Crystal Palace have joined the chase to sign Hull City defender Cody Drameh following his impressive performances in pre-season.

“Several Championship clubs are also interested in signing Drameh this summer.”

Drameh started in Hull’s 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Sunderland on Tuesday evening, in another impressive display from the 23-year-old.

Despite the growing interest in his services, Hull must dodge the transfer pursuits for Drameh ahead of the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic must keep Cody Drameh despite Crystal Palace interest

Last week, Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic commented on the future of Drameh, before Crystal Palace’s interest in the defender, who scored his only goal of last season with a screamer against QPR last season, had emerged.

Jakirovic told Hull Live: “He has trained very, very good. Cody has big abilities, and he can repeat them all day and all night, so it’s very, very good for us.

“He’s still a young player, and he also needs support. We have two very good options at the right full-back position.

“He’s young, he has potential, and as I say, he can repeat (his actions all day), and this is modern football today.”

The former Leeds prospect is currently Hull’s only fit right-back, with Lewie Coyle injured heading into the new season.

Despite the club’s financial concerns, the Tigers are under no pressure to sell now after the salary cap has been dropped, and now the Hull hierarchy must do their best to retain the Englishman despite the top flight interest given his impressive performances of late.

No free agent or loan signing would hold a candle to the quality and potential that Drameh possesses. As such, Hull owner Acun Illicali must only entertain offers from the full-back that are too good to turn down.
