One of the biggest stories on transfer deadline day is around Gus Hamer’s future, and EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal how Sheffield United feel about the idea of him leaving the club.

It’s been a summer of transition for Sheffield United, with a new manager coming in and a number of top players leaving the club.

Ruben Selles has already lost Vini Souza and Anel Ahmedhodzic, and now Gus Hamer is the last remaining big name still at Bramall Lane.

Earlier today we revealed that Hamer is not happy at United after a dreadful start to the season, but the Blades are now insistent he will not leave during this transfer window.

Sheffield United do not want to let Gus Hamer leave

Thanks to information from our transfer expert Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that Sheffield United now have “no intention” of allowing Gustavo Hamer to leave the club.

We know Hamer is frustrated with how Selles’ tenure at Bramall Lane has begun, and Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven have launched an approach to sign the Netherlands midfielder in the last few hours.

However, United sources have told us that they do not intend to accept any offers for Hamer now. The club understand the concerns but believe in Selles and feel Hamer is going to play a huge part in getting them promoted, which remains their aim despite their poor start to the season.

This is Sheffield United’s worst start to a league season in 30 years, and there are now question marks over Selles’ future. But, it sounds like the Blades are sticking with their manager, and expect their captain to do the same.

Gus Hamer’s influence at Sheffield United is clear to see

One thing’s for sure, replacing Gus Hamer would be very difficult for Sheffield United, especially at this stage of the transfer window.

Last season, Hamer was crowned the best player in the Championship after registering nine goals and seven assists for the Blades.

The playmaker completed over 1000 passes across the 2024/25 campaign and clocked up a massive 4.46 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes, as well as 0.55 goal-creating actions per 90.

Without him, United would not only lose their leader, but a highly-creative player, too. It’s no surprise they are desperate to keep him.
