Sheffield Wednesday could complete their third signing of the season, but face a nervous wait with the football authorities.
Sheffield Wednesday made only two signings in the summer transfer window as a result of the Owls’ financial crisis under owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Sheffield Wednesday signed Harry Amass on loan from Manchester United, with the Red Devils to thank for paying the wages, accommodation costs and bonuses for the youngster’s stint at Hillsborough.
As well as Amass, Sheffield Wednesday brought in Ethan Horvath on an emergency loan from Cardiff City following an injury to number one goalkeeper Pierce Charles.
Now, the Owls are fighting to bring in a free agent, but need EFL approval to do so.

Sheffield Wednesday target free agent forward Duncan Watmore
EFL Analysis exclusively revealed earlier this month that Sheffield Wednesday are exploring the free agent market and will make moves for players without a club if the English Football authorities approve.
In addition, we at EFL Analysis outlined three free agents Sheffield Wednesday should sign, which included Duncan Watmore, and now the Owls are fighting for his signature.
Versatile forward Watmore left Millwall this summer after three seasons at the Den to become a free agent, and now the former Sunderland winger wants to join Sheffield Wednesday.
Reporter Alan Nixon revealed on his Patreon: “Sheffield Wednesday want to bring in free agent forward Duncan Watmore.
“The Owls are keen for Watmore to join them for training while they seek permission from the EFL to make a new signing.
“Watmore has been available all summer and previously trained at Blackpool. He is keen on Wednesday if they can do the deal.
“Owls have to run any incoming additions with the EFL and only managed a recent loan because they were not paying for it.
“Watmore is a different case as he would want a contract, and that needs to be rubber-stamped by the football authorities.”

Duncan Watmore would be a brilliant signing for Sheffield Wednesday
Watmore is a product of the Sunderland academy, and went on to feature 87 times in red-and-white, with 37 of those appearances coming in the Premier League.
His most prolific Championship spell was with Middlesbrough, but the industrious winger also proved himself to be a capable second tier operator at Millwall.
| Club name | Games | Goals/Assists |
| Sunderland | 87 | 8/8 |
| Hibernian (loan) | 10 | 1/0 |
| Middlesbrough | 97 | 21/7 |
| Millwall | 80 | 12/3 |
So far in the Championship season, Sheffield Wednesday have scored just three goals in five games, with the summer exits for several of their attacking talents proving difficult for Henrik Pedersen.
With Watmore capable of operating on either flank and through the middle if needed, his versatility, experience and eye for goal will be a monumental benefit to Pedersen’s threadbare Sheffield Wednesday squad amid their fight to dodge relegation.
