Swansea City have seemingly become the club where everything is happening this summer, as there has been change in the boardroom and in the changing room.

Excitement is brewing around Swansea City as the news is out that Snoop Dogg has become a co-owner and investor.

As excitement grows, it must be remembered their Championship campaign last year was a tale of two halves; however, Alan Sheehan is now plotting a return to the top flight.

The appointment of Alan Sheehan sparked a huge turnaround in the second half of the campaign, with the Swans achieving the third-best record in the league over the final 13 games, securing 23 points.

While not a promotion-contending season, this remarkable improvement offers considerable hope for the upcoming 2025-2026 campaign, with a busy summer of transfers already taking place.

Now as Snoop Dogg joins the investors at the club, alongside Luka Modric, there may be a desire for players to join, while a number of players will have to be moved on; however, none of them will fetch fees anywhere near their record departure.

EFL Analysis brings you the five most expensive departures, according to Transfermarkt.

5. Joe Allen – £16.4 million

The Welsh international left Swansea City to join his former manager at Liverpool for £16.5 million, after the Reds appointed Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2012.

Joe Allen was expected to be a key part of Rodgers’ Liverpool after he impressed for Swansea in their first season in the Premier League.

Allen worked his way up to the English top flight from League One after he made his debut in the 2006/07 season, and he grew in stature across his six seasons with the club.

He would return to the club in 2022 to see out his career, spending the final three years here before retiring.

4. Oli McBurnie – £16.5 million

Oli McBurnie joined the club after impressing for Bradford City in League One, and he would grow with Swansea to become a major player in the squad.

He would struggle in his first three seasons as the club were in the Premier League, not making much of an impact, but he would be vital for them upon their relegation to the Championship, as he scored 24 goals across 44 matches in that campaign.

This caught the eye of Sheffield United, who were in the Premier League, and so they spent heavily on the striker to keep them in the division.

He would never rediscover the form he had in his final season for Swansea while in Sheffield or when he moved to Las Palmas, yet fans will remember his performances in white fondly.

3. Andre Ayew – £20.9 million

The Ghanaian international was a fan favourite while at the club, particularly in his first spell in the Welsh city, as he joined for free.

Andre Ayew would have an impressive season at Swansea, as he scored 12 goals in 35 matches before West Ham would splash out on him, spending £20.9 million.

He would only last only a season and a half in London before opting to move back to Swansea, where he would spend another two and a half seasons.

Ayew would impress in the Championship for Swansea, as he scored 35 goals during his two seasons in the division.

In July 2021 his time in Wales came to an end when he moved for free to Al Sadd.

2. Wilfried Bony – £28 million

The Ivorian international impressed during his time at the club, joining from Vitesse in the summer of 2013.

Wilfried Bony only spent a season and a half at Swansea before moving to Manchester City in January 2015 for £28 million after his impressive haul of 34 goals in 70 matches.

He struggled at Manchester City and Stoke City before he decided to re-join Swansea.

However, this spell would be nothing like his first spell, as he only scored four goals in 25 matches.

1. Gylfi Sigurdsson – £42.8 million

Gylfi Sigurdsson became a fan favourite with the Swans very quickly, as he impressed on loan from TSG Hoffenheim.

Swansea were about to make the deal permanent in the summer of 2012, but it collapsed after Brendan Rodgers left the club to join Liverpool, and so he would end up at Tottenham Hotspur.

However, he would be signed by Swansea in July 2014, with Ben Davies joining Spurs as part of the deal.

Sigurdsson would spend three seasons at the club in the Premier League before Everton would splash out on the Icelandic international, spending a total of £42.8 million.
