Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss is closing in on an exit, after a summer of back and forth regarding his future at the King Power Stadium.

The Leicester City playmaker was absent from Friday’s 2-0 win over Birmingham City, though victory extended Leicester’s outstanding home record against Birmingham.

It comes after Bilal El Khannouss missed the Foxes’ win against Charlton Athletic, with Marti Cifuentes taking the 21-year-old Moroccan out of the transfer spotlight.

Despite the fact, at one stage, it appeared El Khannouss was set to stay with the Foxes after a move to Crystal Palace collapsed.

The Morocco international’s release clause expiry date had also passed, with Leicester then said to be wanting £35 million or more for his services.

Cifuentes then explained El Khannouss’ absence on Friday. The 21-year-old was reportedly left frustrated by the situation and still wanted to leave.

However, EFL Analysis exclusively revealed that the Foxes want more than £40 million for El Khannouss, and their hope was that Saudi Arabia would come in for him.

Sky Sports Germany’s Patrick Berger revealed El Khannouss was on the list of several European clubs, including Stuttgart after Nick Woltemade’s departure.

Now, further updates have emerged in terms of Stuttgart. They have struck a deal with Leicester and he is set to fly to Germany for a medical today. That comes via Sacha Tavolieri.

He has since revealed El Khannouss is flying at 4pm UK time in order to complete his move to VfB Stuttgart. Leicester are about to earn close to €30m (£26 million) on the deal instead, which is perhaps influenced by El Khannouss’ stance on leaving.

Leicester eye Anton Saletros to replace El Khannouss in midfield

Cifuentes is still looking to add to his squad in the transfer market ahead of the deadline, and at least a new midfielder is needed.

Therefore, it will come as no surprise to see Leicester linked with a move for Anton Saletros from AIK. The midfielder is the captain of the Swedish giants, with Cifuentes having experience of coaching at the club in the past.

They have done very little this summer, meaning it is imperative that moves are made quickly to fill the squad at the King Power Stadium. They have just over 24 hours to complete a few deals and ensure they are ready for an assault on the Championship’s summit.

It’s clear that they are short after a number of exits, but El Khannouss is set to become the latest in that sense. They will hope Saletros bolsters their ranks.
