Stats point to obvious winner between Wrexham and West Brom in the Championship this weekend

Wrexham will be hosting a team at the Racecourse in the second tier of English football for the first time in 43 years, with the opponents coming in the shape of West Brom.

Wrexham will be looking to build on their sensational comeback victory over Hull City in the Carabao Cup during the week and earn their first Championship victory of the season after a dramatic loss to Southampton.

Meanwhile, West Brom will be looking to build on their opening-day victory over Blackburn Rovers, a win that was inspired by debutant Nat Phillips.

It is set to be the first league game ever between the two sides, with Wrexham emerging victorious 95 years ago in an FA Cup game between the clubs.

Wrexham may be quietly confident of securing victory once again due to referee John Busby being appointed, as the Red Dragons have a 100% win percentage with him in charge of their matches.

However, stats collated by Opta have suggested there to be only one winner between the two sides when they meet on Saturday afternoon.

Opta points towards a Wrexham win

Information collated by Opta has suggested that Wrexham should emerge as victors over West Brom this weekend, predicting a 43.3% win probability percentage in favour of the Red Dragons, while only giving the Baggies a 29.9% chance.

However, more interesting is the information that has been collected about the two teams over the years, with it stating that West Brom have won only one of seven of their last visits to Wales, that victory coming over Cardiff City in November 2023.

A win for the Baggies would mean the club will have secured consecutive wins in their opening two league fixtures for the first time since 2017, when they were in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Wrexham will be confident of victory, as they have won their opening home game in five of their last six Football League campaigns, with the only exception coming in 2023-24.

The other teams Wrexham are set to face for the first time

West Brom and Wrexham are set to face off for the first time in league history, which will be a special moment for both clubs, as one could hold the bragging rights to having a perfect league record against the other, at least for a few months.

However, with this being the first time Wrexham are to compete in the second tier for 43 years, there are several clubs they have not faced in the league.

This will include the traditional giants of English football in Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough.
