Bristol City must overcome terrible away record against Leeds United to secure play-off place for first time in 17 years

All eyes are on Leeds United as they look to close in on the Championship title, but this game is just as important for Bristol City.

Leeds were promoted to the Premier League after hammering Stoke City last time out and will all-but-seal the title if they win at Elland Road tonight and would only need to match Burnley’s result on the final day if they do.

Liam Manning has done a remarkable job at Bristol City and the Robins can secure their play-off place for the first time since the 2007/08 season.

In a game dubbed as the Luke Ayling derby, it seems that only one team is going to win, with Sam Parkin suggesting Leeds will comfortably.

Don’t write off Bristol City though, although, they will have to overcome a terrible away record if they are to win in Yorkshire.

Bristol City have a terrible away record

Whilst Leeds can continue a 46-year record against the Robins, the away side will be looking to end a major hoodoo.

As revealed by BBC Sport, Manning’s side have won only one of their last 14 games on the road.

Their last victory away from Ashton Gate came on 4 March, when goals from Zak Vyner and Harry Cornick earned them at Millwall.

The most recent away loss was against relegation-threatened Luton Town on Easter Monday.

Liam Manning urges Bristol City to show their ‘self belief’

Nobody expected Bristol City to be in contention for a play-off place at any point of the season, let alone with two games to go.

Normally associated with a mid-table finish, the Robins would still be outsiders if they do finish in the top six and now Manning has urged his club to continue showing the same self belief they have done all season.

He said: “You have to have real self belief and the way that you get that is through the work that you do day to day and that we have been doing since day one here.

“That’s why we have progressed to the level that we have and ultimately it’s go up there, get the behaviours on the money and back it up with some outstanding basics.”
