Championship returnees Charlton Athletic host recently relegated Leicester City this Saturday, and the home side’s squad may be boosted by one of their summer signings.

Aside from that newcomer and missing striker Matty Godden, who underwent surgery on his knee this summer, the Addicks boast a fit squad and are in a strong position going into the clash against the Foxes.

After a win and a draw in their first two matches back in the second tier, Charlton will be hoping their impressive home form will see them claim all three points against an out-of-sorts Leicester side. The Foxes lost to Preston North End 2-1 last time out, and after losing Jamie Vardy amongst other stars, Bilal El Khannouss is edging towards a move to Crystal Palace.

While Leicester fear further exits, Addicks boss Nathan Jones has confirmed a new signing of theirs is back in full training ahead of the clubs’ first meeting in 11 years.

Former Luton Town defender Reece Burke is back in full Charlton training

Reece Burke is back in full training, according to Jones. The 28-year-old signed from Jones’ old club Luton Town along with Amari’i Bell and Thomas Kaminski this summer.

Burke, who played with Addicks captain Greg Docherty at Hull City, played in his new club’s pre-season friendly against Dartford in July.

However he went on to pick up an injury before the start of the season and hasn’t made his competitive debut yet.

Now, Jones has confirmed he is back with the squad ahead of this weekend’s game.

“We’ve had Reece Burke back in full training this week,” the Welshman said in his Leicester press conference. “We are in a better position than we were.”

There were assumptions Burke may have been fit again after the Addicks sent other centre-half Alex Mitchell out on loan to Plymouth Argyle. However, Jones said his club’s transfer business isn’t done just yet.

Nathan Jones wants to sign ‘one body’ in key position before transfer window shuts

The Addicks boss also confirmed he wants to recruit at least one more player for one specific position in his press conference.

EFL Analysis’ football transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey understands Charlton are still ‘looking’ at Kyoto Sanga’s Shinnosuke Fukuda. Meanwhile, news on signing trialist and Wolves right wing back Dexter Lembikisa has gone quiet.

The Addicks need reinforcements at right wing back in particular following the departure of Thierry Small, who signed for Preston at the start of the window.

Speaking about the business the south east London club still need to do, Jones said: “What we probably want to do is add at least one body. We know the position we need it. Maybe to do that, we want to make sure our numbers are good.

“The club have been amazing in backing us and they then trusted us to put players out, developing the assets. We have done that. Gassan [Ahadme] has got a really good move [to Stevenage] and started really well. Alex Mitchell has got a move. Kaheim [Dixon] has gone [to Crawley] and is in a wonderful place there.

“It is important if they are not going to impact on us now, it is important we keep developing the asset and sending them to the right clubs.”

Charlton have had an impressive window so far, including signing League One golden boot winner Charlie Kelman from QPR and Reading’s Harvey Knibbs.
