Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has continued to field questions on the interest in one key player.
Sheffield Wednesday have suffered back-to-back defeats in the Championship, but the most recent home loss to Stoke City was overshadowed by the supporters’ continued opposition to Dejphon Chansiri.
This summer has seen Sheffield Wednesday face several issues, many of which have been pinned on Chansiri, whether it is the number of late payments to players, staff, and even opposition clubs.
The Owls first-team squad has also been severely depleted, with new head coach Henrik Pedersen losing several stars, including the goalscoring threats of Josh Windass, Callum Paterson, and Michael Smith on free deals.
They could be in line to lose yet another key player, but Pedersen has stressed that he and the owner are ‘doing all we can’.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen on talks with Dejphon Chansiri over Pierce Charles
Sheffield Wednesday ace Pierce Charles has been linked to Premier League clubs this summer after his breakthrough 2024/25 season that saw him become a regular for the Owls, as well as for Northern Ireland at senior level.
The Owls goalkeeper has started every game so far this summer due to there being no recognised first-team goalkeeper other than the Northern Ireland international.
Due to the severe lack of options available to Henrik Pedersen, it is paramount that he keeps Charles this season, and the Dane has discussed the work being done to try and keep him at the club.
“In the moment, we are doing all we can to find a solution so that we can get players in,” Pedersen said via The Star. “I am hoping we don’t sell anyone, we need the players that we have now and to keep them is very, very important, especially when we have the challenge to sign new ones. So I do really hope we can keep the players.”
When asked about the conversations he has had with Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri on Charles’ future, Pedersen said: “We have had dialogue that we want to keep him and we want to get new players in.”

Pierce Charles departure would be the biggest blow yet
Sheffield Wednesday fans have been put through the wringer this summer, having to bid farewell to so many players who have represented the club in recent years.
Whilst each departure has left a significant mark on the club, as for the impact they have on a game, none would come close to the potential loss of Pierce Charles.
As a young prodigy who is destined to go far, not only would losing Charles for a fee far below his market value be bad business for the club, but it would leave Henrik Pedersen’s squad in a dire state regarding the lack of goalkeepers.
A sale with a loan-back clause would be damage limitation from Dejphon Chansiri’s point of view, and it would plug the goalkeeper issues in the short-term, but it would still be far from ideal to lose such a talent for predominantly below his true worth.
