How Norwich City feel about Johannes Hoff Thorup future following 5-3 Portsmouth hammering

In an EFL Analysis exclusive, we can reveal that Norwich City are considering Johannes Hoff Thorup’s future after their 5-3 home defeat to Portsmouth.

Unwanted records have hampered Norwich’s progress this season, even if in many ways, Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side have been the Championship’s entertainers this season. They have seen 129 goals for or against them this season, and only Plymouth Argyle can match that total.

They have been impacted by chopping and changing too often, but Norwich fans have grown impatient in recent weeks and the thumping win to the relegation strugglers has left many with an even shorter fuse.

For much of the campaign, the Canaries have been just one of numerous sides in the play-off mix ahead of the run-in. They could be deemed as outsiders, though, and that chance of a place has extinguished rapidly in recent weeks after no wins in four, including the defeats above and to Portsmouth.

Johannes Hoff Thorup pressure mounts at Norwich City

There have been bright spots, including Josh Sargent, who is one of the best strikers in the Championship and firmly in the golden boot race, which pundits are backing him to win. However, there is a high chance of Sargent departing the club this summer without promotion again.

As we previously exclusively revealed, Kellen Fisher is also wanted by Premier League clubs and Borja Sainz is Premier League standard as well, with Sheffield United also sniffing around the Spaniard. Evidently, there will be a rebuild of sorts coming this summer.

That could now include a changing of manager. EFL Analysis expert Graeme Bailey has offered the latest exclusive information. He said: “The pressure is really mounting on Johannes Hoff Thorup.

“There was a real feeling within the club at the end of January that they could make a real run for the play-offs — they firmly believe they are good enough.

“In Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz, they have two of the best forwards in the league but now they are likely to lose both in the summer and they are going to be huge losses.

“I am told the club’s hierarchy are considering their options and that could include changing Thorup. They like him a lot, but their drop off has been hugely concerning to them.”

Johannes Hoff Thorup’s Norwich City record

Players like Jacob Wright could be a part of a summer overhaul if Norwich choose to part ways with Throup. The consistency of performance and of results has simply not been there, with some recent defeats described as ’embarrassing’ by Norwich supporters.

Their former boss, Daniel Farke, is gaining promotion with Leeds United as they look on, but comparisons to the German are unhelpful. Thorup is an exciting coach in an attacking sense but Norwich’s inability to see out games or manage them when protecting a lead has been their Achilles heel.

Johannes Hoff Thorup’s Norwich City record and statistics

They have won games 4-0, 4-1, 4-2, 6-2, and 5-1 this season, but even the highest of highs don’t compare to losing at Carrow Road to Portsmouth 5-3. If the Norwich hierarchy were already having doubts prior to the game, then they will certainly be having some more major ones since watching it unfold.
