Derby County boss John Eustace has spoken out about one leader in the dressing room he believes has been crucial.
The Championship relegation race is set to have its next twist this weekend as Derby County travel to Hull City at the MKM Stadium.
Derby County bagged a crucial win against West Brom last time out, but that was cancelled out by Hull City and Luton Town, notably getting victories of their own.
Nonetheless, Derby have a top chance to put the weight off their shoulders for the last game of the Championship campaign, as, if the Rams can clinch a victory against Ruben Selles’ side, they will find themselves three points ahead of Luton Town, who will have an insurmountable goal difference, providing that they don’t pick up any points against Coventry City.
In the build-up to the game, Hull City boss Ruben Selles has praised John Eustace, whilst the Rams boss has issued words himself directed towards one of his own players, whom he has noted for his ‘outstanding’ character.

Derby County boss John Eustace singles out Jerry Yates for praise ahead of Hull City clash
Derby County has seen an upheaval in form and performances since John Eustace took over from Paul Warne in February, despite it taking a few games to click for the former Blackburn Rovers boss.
The Rams boss, because of the form of his side, has been full of praise for his ranks, and has in particular singled out striker Jerry Yates ahead of the clash with Hull City.
Yates bagged the second goal last time out for Derby County as they crucially beat West Brom away from home.
“He’s been outstanding since we’ve come in,” Eustace said to the in-house media. “His work rate and attitude have been second to none, and he leads by example.
“There’s another two huge games coming up, and he’s got to continue doing that. He’s certainly been a top performer for me since I’ve been here.”

John Eustace has succeeded at one thing that Paul Warne struggled to achieve
There is no doubt that Yates has been a crucial performer for Derby County throughout the 2024/25 Championship campaign, and without him, the landscape of the relegation scrap would look far more bleak for Eustace’s side.
Derby County’s striker has shown a decent level of goalscoring ability this season, with seven of his goals coming under Paul Warne, whilst a further three have been notched during Eustace’s tenure at the club so far.
However, one thing that Eustace has succeeded at is bringing Yates closer to the action, rather than him lingering up top, as Warne used him.
The last three games for Yates, in particular, have shown the Rams star in very good form, notably bagging two goals, but also getting in more promising attacking positions, whilst playing a part in the build-up to attacks.
