Norwich City fans were delighted for the transfer window to close with Josh Sargent still at the club, and now he’s revealed why he stayed.
Overall, it was a highly successful summer transfer window for the Canaries, with 13 new signings for Norwich City and very few outgoings that actually harmed the team.
The departure of Marcelino Nunez to Ipswich Town stung the fans, of course, while the exit of Borja Sainz was a blow. But, the main thing Norwich City needed this summer was to keep Josh Sargent.
The USA striker has continued his incredible goalscoring form from last season with six goals in five games this term, and he’ll be sticking around at Carrow Road until January at the very least.

What Josh Sargent said about staying at Norwich City
There was deadline day interest from Sunderland in Sargent, and we had always suggested Norwich feared losing their star man. However, speaking to USA Today, the 25-year-old has explained why he ignored the links and stayed at the club.
He said: “A lot of decisions had to be made, not just for myself, but for my family overall. I think I’m in a good spot at Norwich. I’m at a place where I know I can score goals, which of course is important going into the World Cup.
“I’ve had a good start to the season, so hopefully I can continue that form all throughout the season and keep scoring goals.”
Sargent will now spearhead Liam Manning’s attempts to lead the Canaries to the Premier League this year, and given the goalscoring form he’s in, he could well make all the difference.

Josh Sargent hasn’t scored for USA since 2019
Sargent is currently on international duty with the USA team having been recalled by Mauricio Pochettino after his sparkling start to the season.
However, the Norwich striker may be banging them in at Championship level, but he’s not scored for his country since 2019.
Discussing this in the same interview, Sargent said: “I’d probably be lying if I said I didn’t think about it. Of course, I know it’s been a while. I’m doing so well at the club level at the moment. I just keep reminding myself how well I’m doing there.
“I know I can score goals, and I know it’s a matter of time that I’m going to score for the national team. I’m just going to put my head down and keep working hard. And I know the goals will come.”
