One of the highest profile transfers in the Championship this summer saw Josh Windass leave Sheffield Wednesday to join Wrexham, but we won’t get to see the playmaker take on his former club this weekend.
Amid all the chaos at Sheffield Wednesday this summer, Windass was able to terminate his own contract due to not being paid by Dejphon Chansiri.
Just days later, he was officially unveiled as one of Wrexham’s summer signings, adding experience, quality, and a brilliant mentality to Phil Parkinson’s squad.
Wrexham and the Owls have both lost their opening two games this season, with the Red Dragons hosting the Owls this weekend in one of the most tantalising fixtures in the Championship, but Windass won’t be there.

Josh Windass ruled out for up to six weeks
Windass was taken off during the defeat to West Brom over the weekend, with Parkinson admitting he was a concern for the upcoming fixture.
Now, the Wrexham manager has confirmed the extent of Windass’ injury, saying: “Josh is going to be out for four to six weeks with his hamstring. Obviously it’s a blow because he’s been great for us.
“Even in the first half hour against West Brom he was really good and obviously down at Southampton. It is really frustrating for him and for us but it’s part and parcel of football and we’ve got to deal with it.
“With the international break coming up, by the time that’s finished he won’t be far off.”
Given the nature of how and why Windass left Sheffield Wednesday, we were all eager to see him come up against his former side this weekend. Now, it sounds like Windass won’t be back in action until at least the game against QPR on September 13th.

Wrexham vs Sheffield Wednesday is make-or-break for both teams
It’s been 19 years since Wrexham last played Sheffield Wednesday, and this weekend’s game will be a hot topic regardless of Windass’ absence.
Both sides are desperate for a win after a poor start to the season. Wrexham have lofty ambitions but have so far failed to live up to the hype, while Sheffield Wednesday have very little to lose this season, but will secretly hope they can pick up what could be a rare win here.

It’s too early to really condemn either side to a relegation fight just yet, but they’ll both fancy their chances here and either manager will really be feeling the heat if they lose.
Henrik Pedersen will be given grace for most of the season, especially by the Owls fans. But for Parkinson, that immense pressure to deliver more success at this new level will be weighing heavy in the weeks to come if results don’t start going his way.
Suffice it to say, if Wrexham can’t beat a makeshift Sheffield Wednesday side, then they’ll struggle to beat any team in the Championship.
