The former Owls hero has broken his silence on the situation at his former employers.
Sheffield Wednesday have been in dire financial straits for several months now under the ownership of Dejphon Chansiri.
After a mid-table finish last season, several high-profile Owls figures departed this summer with the club in crisis.
Danny Rohl left Sheffield Wednesday alongside a plethora of his former top talents, with one of the biggest losses being Josh Windass’ move to Wrexham.
Now, the former Owls forward has broken his silence on his dealings with Sheffield Wednesday owner Chansiri.

Josh Windass believes Dejphon Chansiri ‘cares’ about Sheffield Wednesday
Alongside fellow forward Michael Smith, Windass terminated his Sheffield Wednesday contract with mutual consent earlier in the summer, which opened the door for his move to newly-promoted Wrexham.
Windass established himself as a Sheffield Wednesday hero, after scoring 53 goals and registering 23 assists in just 182 appearances for the Owls, scoring the winner in the 2023 League One play-off final win at Wembley in the process.
Former Rangers star Windass was denied his Sheffield Wednesday reunion after an injury kept him out of the 2-2 draw at the Racecourse last month.
Now, he has made an honest admission about Owls owner Chansiri that will shock Sheffield Wednesday supporters after everything that has transpired this summer thanks to Chansiri.
When asked whether the situation hurts him, Windass told the Sheffield Star: “It does.
“When I was at the club I got on with the chairman and his family. It’s easy for me to say now and I know I might get hammered by the fans for this, but I do believe they care about the club.
“The way it’s been run the last couple of years, it might be difficult to believe that, because of the trouble they’re in. Obviously, the situation seems to have got on top of people.
“Everything in football comes in cycles and Sheffield Wednesday will turn it around. A club with that fan base of that size, it’s inevitable that that club will turn around one way or another.
“But it’s sad, you want to see a team like that doing what we (Wrexham) are, but obviously that’s not always the case.
| Club name | Josh Windass’ games/goals |
| Sheffield Wednesday | 182/53 |
| Wrexham | 3/1 |
“I want the club to do really well. If we were fighting it out for first and second that would be amazing, if we were both fighting for the play-offs that would be amazing.
“But I just want the club to get back on its feet and you can see with the supporters, they deserve that.”

Sheffield Wednesday’s woes continue under Dejphon Chansiri
After a summer of turmoil in S6, there are few signs of reprieve for Sheffield Wednesday supporters.
On the playing front, Henrik Pedersen’s 23rd-placed side sit just one spot above struggling neighbours Sheffield United, with a difficult clash on the horizon post-international break.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 23 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 9 | -6 | 1 |
Sheffield Wednesday fans will protest Chansiri again during this weekend’s clash against Bristol City with their ‘bag a seat’ movement to “cover the Chansiri wording on the North Stand”.
After fears over Chansiri’s “fresh investment” aim emerged, the Sheffield Wednesday faithful will be hoping that if the Thai businessman truly cares about the Owls, as Windass claims, then the lingering takeover situation will be resolved sooner rather than later.
