It’s safe to say Sheffield United fans are not happy right now, and the fact that one former player has moved on and is excelling at his new club will not help matters.
Chris Wilder out. Ruben Selles in. Sheffield United have undergone quite the transformation this summer, and as things stand, it doesn’t look like a positive one.
It’s been the worst start to a season for Sheffield United in 30 years with four defeats from four games, and fans are in uproar.
They’ll be even more unhappy to see that one Sheffield United outgoing this summer has hit the ground running at his new club.

Anel Ahmedhodzic makes impressive start to Feyenoord career
We posited the idea that Kieffer Moore’s departure was a regret for United, but it’s now clear that Anel Ahmedhodzic has left the biggest hole in the Blades’ squad.
The Bosnian international has now played five games since joining Feyenoord for £7m earlier this summer, and he’s earning rave reviews.
Bosnian football expert Bosniaco was impressed with the big centre-half’s latest outing, taking to Twitter/X to write: “Anel Ahmedhodzic (and his CB partner) are now pretty much the biggest weekly talking point at Feyenoord among Dutch analysts. At the root of the second goal with a proactive interception. He’s playing with such ease here, both on the ball and defensively.”
This is something Bosniaco saw coming around a month ago, predicting that Ahmedhodzic would be a perfect fit for Feyenoord’s system under Robin Van Persie.
He previously said: “Genuinely convinced that Anel Ahmedhodzic and Feyenoord will be a successful story. The way Van Persie immediately trusted him and speaks about him is reassuring, and the team itself just feels like the right fit.
“Watanabe brings a calmer temperament at the back, which allows Ahmedhodžić to play his more aggressive style while keeping the risks limited. He’s also playing on his preferred side, which helps in possession.

“The debut against Fenerbahçe was solid, though still not close to his best. But I really think this is finally the environment where he’ll start to grow.”
That £7m price tag could well end up being an absolute bargain for Feyenoord, and Sheffield United will surely regret letting their star defender leave so easily.

Sheffield United’s new signings need to hit the ground running
Selles and Sheffield United will now be looking to the likes of Japhet Tanganga and fellow new arrival Ben Mee to plug that gap in the Blades defence.
The problem for United so far this season has not been confined to solely the defensive areas, though. They’ve looked devoid of creativity and cohesiveness across the park, and Selles appears to be reluctant to switch up his system at all.
With so many new players coming in, you’d normally expect and prepare for a period of adjustment. As things stand, Sheffield United cannot afford that kind of luxury.
Keeping Gus Hamer was massive for Sheffield United on deadline day, but unless they improve quickly he will be itching to move on and will be yet another star man that leaves the Blades kicking themselves.
