Hull City are quietly having a successful summer transfer window, despite all the problems the Tigers have had to face.
When Hull City were hit with a transfer embargo in July, many thought that not being able to sign players for transfer fees would have derailed their chances of staying in the Championship.
Hull survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last term with a final-day draw at Portsmouth, and several improvements to their squad were needed.
New manager Sergej Jakirovic was handed the arduous task of assembling a team under the restrictions of an embargo, but somehow, sporting director Jared Dublin and his recruitment team have pulled a rabbit out of the hat.
City are making some strong signings that could see them embarrass those who are writing off their chances in 2025/26.

Hull City are doing some outstanding transfer business despite the embargo
In the three years of Acun Ilicali’s ownership, scattergun recruitment and overspending have plunged Hull into financial troubles.
Hull’s wage bill has increased by a whopping 218% since Ilicali completed his takeover in January 2022, putting them high on the list of the Championship’s top spenders.
A transfer embargo was seen as detrimental to many outsiders, but actually, it has proven to be a blessing for the Tigers.
Without the pressures of spending big and often getting their recruitment wrong, fee restrictions have allowed Dublin to make some measured additions to Hull’s squad.
City have already captured Semi Ajayi, Enis Destan, Akin Famewo and Dillon Phillips on a free, while Joel Ndala and John Lundstram have joined on loan.
Remarkably, their most eye-catching pieces of summer business are on the horizon. Oli McBurnie is set to join Hull after snubbing Sheffield United and Ipswich Town, while Joe Gelhardt is closing in on a return after scoring five goals following a loan from Leeds United last term.
A front four potentially comprising Liam Millar, Gelhardt, Mohamed Belloumi and McBurnie is exciting, and will surely turn the Tigers from toothless to ruthless in attack.

When Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi will return to the squad
Hull will soon find out whether their transfer embargo gets removed, as they’re currently unable to sign players for fees until January 2027.
In the long run, an embargo in place would be devastating, although currently, supporters will feel it has helped them secure some excellent deals.
It isn’t just in the transfer window where excitement levels are high because star wingers Millar and Belloumi are closing in on a return after suffering ACL injuries last year.
And according to Jakirovic, they will be back after the first international break of the season, so potentially at the start of September.
“They’re at eighty per cent,” Jakirovic told Hull Live. “We need to be more patient because there is still some asymmetry in the hamstring (difference in strength between left and right legs), so we need some more time. I think it will be around the international break, so at the end of August, beginning of September, I think it will be OK.”
