These three Championship clubs must hijack Hull City’s Louie Barry deal after latest development

On Monday afternoon it looked as though Hull City had wrapped up the permanent signing of Louie Barry.

The Tigers had reportedly agreed a deal with Aston Villa for the forward, but a new stumbling block emerged on Tuesday and Barry may not be returning to the MKM Stadium just yet.

The 22-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan in East Yorkshire, but his appearances were severely limited as he suffered an injury just weeks into his stay – ultimately ending his campaign early.

With question marks now appearing over his future, EFL Analysis has picked out three other Championship clubs who could make a move for Barry this summer.

Three Championship clubs who should target Louie Barry

Sheffield United

It was Ruben Selles who oversaw the ex-Stockport County man while he was at Hull last year, and after the Spaniard was sacked by the Tigers he could get a little bit of vengeance by hijacking the move for the talented youngster.

With Gustavo Hamer’s future uncertain, bringing in a new star for that left side of the pitch may just be needed. While the two are different players, the attacking qualities that Barry possesses would give Sheffield United a new way of going forward.

After more play-off disappointment for the Blades, they will be pushing for automatic promotion in 2025/26 and bringing in a player who will score goals from out wide is crucial to their chances.

Norwich City

Similar to Sheffield United, Norwich City have a tough summer ahead of them as they look to hold on to their key players.

Josh Sargent has plenty of admirers, while Borja Sainz has been linked with a move to Italy. Replacing their goals will be the difference between mid-table and the top six next season, with Liam Manning looking to use his large transfer kitty this window.

Barry can take on the role that will be left by Sainz if he does leave, and at 22, he is two years younger than the Spaniard which is a slight advantage.

Southampton

The final team that we’ve chosen on this list is Southampton. The Saints are entering the campaign with Will Still in charge after they narrowly avoided breaking Derby County’s Premier League point record.

Kamaldeen Sulemana looks likely to leave in the coming days, and finding a replacement for the winger is vital. According to The Daily Echo, the deal with Atalanta will start at €17.5m (£14.5m) and this will give the Hampshire outfit plenty of extra cash to spend on Barry.

After his scoring talents with Stockport, there will be plenty of eyes on the current Aston Villa man whether he does move to and playing for a side who expect to be towards the top of the Championship could be the perfect place for him to show off his talents.
