Blackpool are pushing for promotion to the Championship in 2025/26 after an inconsistent League One campaign last time out.

Jerry Yates is well-liked by the Tangerines, although he is not 100% keen on dropping down to the third tier at this moment in time, with the Swansea City striker likely to depart this summer.

Steve Bruce should make a move for Dale Taylor from Nottingham Forest after they sold Rob Apter to Charlton Athletic. However, it is another position which the Lancashire outfit are targeting ahead of next weekend’s EFL openers.

Bringing in more quality out wide is something that Blackpool need if they are to compete for a top six finish in League One and they have identified one target.

Exclusive: Blackpool lead the race for Randell Williams after Leyton Orient exit

Randell Williams only joined Leyton Orient in January after leaving Bolton Wanderers following two years in the north-west.

He made 17 appearances in all competitions for the O’s, scoring two goals and registering one assist as his former side were beaten by Charlton in the League One play-off final.

However, following the expiration of his contract, EFL Analysis understands that Blackpool are leading the race for free agent Williams, according to information from our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey.

Steve Bruce has lost CJ Hamilton to injury and Rob Apter was sold to Charlton. The former Bolton and Leyton Orient man has now held talks about a possible switch to Bloomfield Road.

Randell Williams can bring plenty of experience to Bloomfield Road

League One is going to be extremely competitive this season, with Huddersfield Town a favourite for the title, while Luton Town cannot be ignored.

However, after relegation to the third tier in 2023, Blackpool will be hoping that they can mount a sustained promotion push this time around and Williams would be the perfect player to help with that.

He’s made 97 appearances in the division over his career, and has a history of helping teams reach the play-offs.

At 28, he is at the perfect age for Bruce to work with and if Yates is signed, he could be the perfect player to link up with the ex-Seasider this summer.
