Ipswich Town have entered the race late to attempt to hijack a deal that Wrexham had been lining up for completion before the close of the week.
The Tractor Boys are looking to bring about an end to their poor start to the season and their run of one win in 22 fixtures.
This will begin with a match against Derby County on Saturday, which they have had a good record against in recent seasons.
Kieran McKenna spoke about the need to get things right with the squad he has and not to worry about signatures; however, Ipswich Town appear to be looking to make several signings before the transfer window shuts.
One of their targets is a player who has been on the wish list of Wrexham, and so they are trying to hijack the deal between a Ligue 1 side and the Red Dragons.
Ipswich Town and Wrexham to battle it out for Jordan James
It has been reported by Alan Nixon on his Patreon that Ipswich have joined the race to sign Jordan James from Ligue 1 side Rennes, a player that Wrexham have been after for a period.
He has reported that both teams are set to talk to the midfielder by this weekend, with his choice to be made by then.
It is believed that the Welsh midfielder can leave Rennes on a full deal, with it being reported the Tractor Boys have made contact with Rennes and are keen. Wrexham’s bid is still bigger, but they hope to talk the player into joining them.

Italian side Parma have been offering a loan-to-buy arrangement, but the Championship sides are believed to be in for a straight deal to buy the player.
There is a belief that James is swayed by Wrexham’s story, but he is weighing up the strengths of joining Ipswich, as it may be a better prospect for this season and beyond.
John Eustace is a huge fan of Jordan James
Jordan James joined Rennes from Birmingham City for a reported fee of £4 million in the summer of 2024, with the Welsh international making 25 appearances for the Ligue 1 club since joining.
However, it appears that his time is up in France, with a return to the Championship the likeliest move for him.
Derby County manager John Eustace was a huge fan of James during their time together at Birmingham City, as he envisaged the player having a bright future, as he explained to Birmingham Live.
He said: “He is a fantastic young player; he has just turned 18; he has a massive future ahead of him. It is my job to develop him at the right time, but this pre-season he has been brilliant. As have the rest of the squad.
“He is old enough and mature enough to play a big part this season. It doesn’t matter what age you are; if you are good enough, you are ready. Last season he did very well; hopefully he can benefit from the experience he had last year. There is going to be no pressure at all on JJ to come in and be our star man
