The five biggest Championship transfer deadline day deals that never happened this summer

And breathe, everyone.

The transfer window is closed until January and all 24 Championship teams have concluded their business for the summer.

It’s been an extremely busy window for the league and we have been fortunate to see some really exciting bits of business over the last few months.

However, for every deal that was completed, there were some that never materialised.

Here, EFL Analysis takes a look at five deadline day deals that never happened.

Gustavo Hamer – Sheffield United

Against all the odds, Gustavo Hamer is still a Sheffield United player.

After a dreadful start to the season for the Blades, and calls for Ruben Selles to be sacked already, all the talk suggested that Hamer would be off.

PSV Eindhoven made an attempt to bring Hamer back to the Netherlands but there was never any form of breakthrough and Sheffield United were able to keep hold of one of their key assets.

Josh Sargent – Norwich City

If there was one player everyone expected to be on the move this summer, it was Josh Sargent of Norwich City.

Premier League clubs tried to swoop for Sargent but the American never kicked up a fuss and has been in electric form for the Canaries.

The 25-year-old scored twice at the weekend and Aaron McClean thinks Sargent is ‘pivotal’ to Norwich’s promotion hopes.

A huge coup for Liam Manning.

Hayden Hackney – Middlesbrough

Another one where fans of the club will rejoice is Middlesbrough.

Panic stations set in when Hayden Hackney told Boro he wanted to join a Premier League side but thankfully, the Teessiders stood their ground and kept the local boy at the Riverside Stadium.

It’s another win for Rob Edwards, who has made an excellent start to life at the club and will be using this extra win to try and bring the supercomputer’s title prediction for Boro to life.

Hyunjun Yang – Birmingham City

You have to feel for Hyunjun Yang here.

The South Korea international travelled down from Glasgow ahead of a proposed £3m move from Celtic to Birmingham City, only for the Hoops to pull the plug on the deal late on.

Yang had been based in Birmingham so that the deal could be finalised quickly but unfortunately for him and the Blues, Celtic’s lack of incomings on their own front led to them asking the 23-year-old to return and remain part of their squad.

On the plus side, Birmingham did complete the signing of Patrick Roberts from Sunderland.

Bailey Cadamarteri – Sheffield United

This could’ve been the transfer that really threw the cat among the pigeons.

It’s been a torturous window for Sheffield Wednesday as they’ve watched just about everyone else strengthen while they’ve had their hands tied due to EFL restrictions.

They have also had to suffer with losing stars like Djeidi Gassama to Rangers on cut-price deals but in a bid to rustle feathers, their city neighbours tested their resolve as Sheffield United made a bid for Bailey Cadamarteri.

Unsurprisingly it was rejected, and no second offer came in, but it would’ve been the wildest transfer of the window if it had.
