Championship transfer round-up: Mateus Fernandes to go, West Brom lose key man and Josh Sargent at risk

There are four more days left of the window, so it’s not surprising that our latest Championship transfer round-up is packed full of huge stories as second tier sides really start to splash the cash.

The transfer market always gets a little crazy at this time of year, and while Championship clubs have spent vast amounts of money already, there’s going to be a lot more cash flowing through the division in the next few days.

We know Birmingham City have more deals to do, which should strike fear into the hearts of their Championship rivals.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday are speaking to the EFL to finally try and get permission to make some signings.

But, neither of those teams feature in our Championship transfer round-up today. Fear not, though, as plenty of other teams have been getting really busy in the last 24 hours.

Transfer merry-go-round at Southampton

If Southampton thought losing Tyler Dibling would be the end of their painful outgoings this summer, they’d be wrong. Now, it seems Mateus Fernandes will sign for West Ham soon.

He’s had his medical and a deal worth around £42m has been agreed, so it’s just a case of waiting for confirmation now.

The Saints will replace Fernandes with Casper Jander, after a £10.5m deal was struck. The German starlet has undergone his medical at St. Mary’s. That’s not the only deal Southampton have lined up, though…

West Brom have outgoings to deal with

It also emerged that Southampton had bid £10m for Tom Fellows. It’s thought West Brom have accepted the offer.

Meanwhile, the Baggies have also sold Darnell Furlong to Ipswich Town. The Tractor Boys now have an entire back-five made up of ex-West Brom players.

And if that wasn’t enough for one Championship transfer round-up, West Brom are also selling Caleb Taylor to Millwall. The 22-year-old will replace Japhet Tanganga, who has now joined Sheffield United.

Josh Sargent could still leave Norwich City

A recurring story in our Championship transfer round-up pieces this summer has been around the future of Josh Sargent.

He’s stuck around so far, but Sargent could still leave Norwich City in the final days of the window. The Canaries do fear losing their star man, who wants to play top flight football.

On the back of Marcelino Nunez’s move to Ipswich Town, we think Norwich fans would lose their minds if Sargent was sold.

Championship transfer round-up: Wout Faes, Middlesbrough’s new striker, Ipswich Town target, Hull City sales

We’ll wrap up this Championship transfer round-up with a look at some other rumours and reports from across the league.

We all thought he would be off to Besiktas, but Wout Faes could now sign for Wolfsburg instead. The German outfit are in talks for the Leicester City outcast.

Ipswich Town target Sebastian Caceres has no idea if a move will happen. It’s thought a deal worth between £7-8m could work, but his current club are digging their heels.

It’s thought Middlesbrough will sign Kaly Sene now. That’s according to Lausanne Sport director, Stephane Henchoz, with a £4.5m deal mooted.

And finally, Hull City could be busy in the next few days, but not in a good way. Goalkeeper Ivor Pandur is wanted by West Ham and Middlesbrough, and would cost £5m. They could also lose Charlie Hughes, with Coventry City still keen despite having a £10m offer rejected.
