Hull City are one of multiple Championship clubs experiencing turmoil during the summer transfer window as their fate hangs in the balance.
Last week, Hull were hit with a three-window transfer embargo, preventing them from spending any money on transfers or loan signings.
Although Acun Ilicali has made progress on easing the restrictions and is confident that the severity of the punishment will be lowered, Hull won’t make any further additions to their squad ahead of their pre-season training camp in Turkey.
At a time when new signings are imperative for Sergej Jakirovic, putting their business on ice has only hampered their chances of landing top target Oli McBurnie.
Indeed, whilst pausing their incomings could see them lose out on McBurnie, one Champions League club could prise one of City’s star assets away from the MKM Stadium.

Rangers are interested in Hull City winger Abu Kamara
According to Sky Sports Scotland, Rangers are confident of landing Hull City winger Abu Kamara on a cut-price deal amid the club’s ongoing financial issues.
The 21-year-old recorded the joint-most assists of any player in the Hull squad last term, with three and also contributed five goals to help the Tigers survive against Portsmouth on the final day.
EFL Analysis has previously revealed that Premier League clubs could look at Kamara towards the end of the summer transfer window, but as it stands, this is the first bit of interest any club has shown in the Englishman.
Rangers are set to play their first Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos on July 22, which is why Russell Martin is desperate to add some attacking talent to his squad.
Kamara isn’t the only Championship talent Martin has aimed to lure to Scotland, as Rangers have shown an interest in Sheffield Wednesday’s Djeidi Gassama, another club going through a raft of financial troubles.
Hull City’s threadbare attacking options
During his outstanding League One campaign with Portsmouth, Kamara was lauded as ‘brilliant’ by teammate Conor Shaughnessy after scoring eight goals and providing 10 assists in 2023/24.
As such, Hull snapped up the pacey winger on a permanent transfer from Norwich City in 2024, and so far, the youngster has blown hot and cold.
A lack of consistency and attacking edge has held him back from unleashing his full potential, with most supporters criticising his performances.
But given Hull’s desperate situation and the fact that they can’t sign players for fees currently, keeping Kamara could be crucial.

Liam Millar
Mohamed Belloumi
Harry Vaughan
Of course, Hull will welcome back Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi during pre-season, but as they’re returning from ACL injuries, they’ll need time to recover.
As for Mason Burstow and Kyle Joseph, that duo have disappointed since joining the club; meanwhile, Harry Vaughan isn’t cut out for Championship football.
