Norwich City star snubs chance to join boyhood club Rangers in favour of staying at Carrow Road

Norwich City’s main focus on transfer deadline day has purely been on keeping key stars, having done a lot of their work early on in the transfer window.

Liam Manning has not had too much to do today, and after losing Borja Sainz to Porto and Marcelino Nunez to Ipswich Town, the 7pm deadline can perhaps not come soon enough for the Canaries.

Throughout the last few months, Josh Sargent has been the subject of significant interest, but the Norfolk outfit have been able to hold on to their American striker for now.

Nevertheless, in the last few days, there have been clubs circling one key member of the Norwich squad. However, a fresh update will be well received by those at Carrow Road.

Kenny McLean set to remain at Norwich City

Kenny McLean is open to leaving the Canaries if the club need to move him on, but he has previously explained that this is not a situation that Manning wants at this time.

However, Scottish giants Rangers have shown an interest in the 33-year-old, with the midfielder a boyhood supporter of the club.

Nevertheless, with Wrexham also monitoring his situation, Pete O’Rourke has reported that Norwich will keep hold of their club captain and he will not move on.

McLean missed the first two games of the season, but he featured in a 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough, before captaining Norwich to a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Kenny McLean is the perfect leader for the Canaries this season

The veteran midfielder would probably admit himself that he may not get the game time that he used to have at Carrow Road, but having players like him around the club is vital to success.

There has been a lot of change in Norfolk this summer with Manning taking charge, and having someone who knows Norwich inside and out is crucial. Therefore, keeping hold of the 33-year-old is an excellent decision.

He has made 268 appearances for the club since joining from Aberdeen in 2018, and he has been a part of the furniture throughout the last seven years.

A two-time promotion winner, the Canaries have to make improvements in the coming weeks and months to reach the top six, but in McLean they have a leader to help them do that.
