Ruben Selles has been far from pleased with the transfer business that Sheffield United have done to this point in the transfer window.
The season did not start brilliantly, as the Blades were beaten 4-1 at home by Bristol City, with Scott Twine stealing the show with his free kick in the first half to open proceedings.
Defensive concerns were at the forefront of Sheffield United’s issues, and it came back to haunt them once again as they crashed out of the EFL Cup against fellow Championship side Birmingham City.
Sheffield United’s new manager, Ruben Selles, has not been pleased up to now with the recruitment drive at the club, stating it has ‘not been good enough’.

However, this may be about to change, as the club seem to have identified a solution to their defensive woes, as Jack Robinson is also still linked to a move to Wrexham.

Sheffield United make an £8 million bid for Bobby Thomas
It has been reported by Pete O’Rourke on social media that Sheffield United have made an £8 million bid for the Coventry City defender Bobby Thomas.
The defender was brought to the club by Mark Robins in the summer of 2023, and he was a pivotal player under the manager before continuing to be essential for Frank Lampard upon his appointment to the role.
Thomas has featured in both of Coventry’s games this season, in both the Championship draw with Hull City and then in their Carabao Cup victory over Luton Town.
Now he is the subject of interest from Sheffield United as the solution to their defensive woes, which have been highlighted in both their fixtures this campaign.
Bobby Thomas delivered Frank Lampard an ‘amazing’ feeling
Bobby Thomas was the hero for Coventry City last season, late into the Championship campaign against Stoke City.
The defender scored a stoppage-time winner against former manager Mark Robins, who was in charge of Stoke City, as Coventry won 3-2 in the fixture with Thomas scoring in the 97th minute.
Speaking with club media after the victory, he said: “I’m really happy for Bobby. I get on really well with Bobby; he is a funny lad, and he is a good player. He can still get better, and he knows it. I can communicate and engage a lot with Bobby.
“Five goals from a centre-half is a big deal; he has got to get his defensive game right, all the basics, but he’s done that, and he’s got two big winners for us as well within those goals, so I’m happy with that element of his game today for sure.”
