Sheffield United are looking to sign defensive recruits for Ruben Selles after their poor start to the season.
Sheffield United continued their winless run to the start of the 2025/26 season with defeat to Swansea City at the weekend.
Ruben Selles is under immense pressure to oversee his first competitive win as Blades boss, and the Blades have “serious work to do” between now and transfer deadline day.
EFL Analysis exclusively revealed recently that Sheffield United watched Max Johnston in Sturm Graz’s recent win, and that the Blades are weighing up an offer for the full-back wanted by Derby County.
As well as full-backs, central defenders are also on the radar for Sheffield United, and reports have now emerged outlining the Blades’ next transfer target for the heart of Selles’ defence.

Sheffield United bid in region of £2.5m for Malmö defender Nils Zatterstrom
In terms of departures from Bramall Lane, Wrexham are interested in Jack Robinson, which would be a major blow for Selles if the Blades were to sell their captain.
Furthermore, QPR want Rhys Norrington-Davies despite his poor form at the start of the season.
Ahead of the Swansea defeat, Selles took aim at Sheffield United’s recruitment this summer by labelling their business as ‘not good enough’.
However, the Blades boss’ opinion could differ after reports emerged from reputable Swedish outlet, Sportsbladet, that Sheffield United have made a bid in the region of £2.5m for Malmö centre-back Nils Zatterstrom.
| Statistic | Nils Zatterstrom for Malmo |
| Appearances | 42 |
| Goals + Assists | 4 + 1 |
Left-footed centre-back Zatterstrom is a product of the Malmö academy and has gone on to make 42 appearances for the Swedish giants’ first team since 2024 after graduating from their under-19s outfit.
20-year-old Zatterstrom already has European experience under his belt, after making seven appearances in the Champions League and five appearances in the Europa League for Malmö.
After supreme centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic left Sheffield United for Feyenoord this month, the Blades are once again looking to raid the side they signed him from three years ago.

Sheffield United will hope Nils Zatterstrom can be the new Anel Ahmedhodzic
Bosnian Ahmedhodzic arrived at Bramall Lane from Malmo in the summer of 2022, and went on to make 114 appearances for the Blades, with 31 of those coming in the Premier League.
Ahmedhodzic starred on his Feyenoord debut in a performance that will be little shock to any Sheffield United supporter who witnessed his resolute defensive displays over the last three seasons.
Sheffield United have considered Ben Godfrey as a potential replacement for the void left by the Bosnian’s exit, but Zatterstrom could prove to be a more financially viable option.
Although Zatterstrom is inexperienced in English football, as Sheffield United fans have seen firsthand with Ahmedhodzic since he arrived, Sweden’s most successful side have a proven track record of nurturing young talent.
With Zatterstrom being a hot commodity in football as a left-footed centre-back, he will offer benefits for the progression of possession, and he could directly fill the role of Robinson if his move to Wrexham materialises.
