The Sky Blues boss is adored by the CBS fanbase, and rightly so, for breaking a long-standing record.
Last season ended in heartbreak for Coventry City with their Championship play-off semi-final second leg defeat to Sunderland.
After a busy summer at Coventry with many incomings and outgoings, the Sky Blues have shown their intent to go one better than last term already in the opening exchanges of 2025/26.
Most recently, Coventry drew 1-1 with Norwich City thanks to an injury-time equaliser from in-form centre forward Haji Wright.
Not only did Wright’s late goal salvage a precious point for Coventry, but it saw Frank Lampard etch his name into Sky Blues folklore forever by achieving a club-first feat.

Frank Lampard achieves Coventry City history with unbeaten start
Coventry have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the 2025/26 Championship campaign under Lampard’s stewardship, picking up two wins and three draws from their first five.
Hull City held the Sky Blues to a goalless stalemate on the opening weekend, before Coventry scored a staggering 12 goals across two victories against Derby County (5-3) and QPR (7-1).
Since then, Lampard’s side have shared the spoils in score draws at Oxford United and, most recently, against the Canaries.
Wright’s injury-time winner salvaged a point for Coventry, but also stretched their unbeaten start to the Championship season to five games.
Therefore, as pointed out by The Championship Chat Podcast, Lampard becomes the first Coventry boss to have avoided defeat in their opening five games of a Championship season.
Coventry face Leicester City this weekend in a clash against their Midlands rivals, with the onus now on Lampard and his squad to continue their undefeated start to the season.

Leicester City will pose big threat to Frank Lampard’s Coventry City
Leicester were held to a 2-2 draw at Oxford United, the same scoreline Coventry ended on before the break against the U’s, with the game steeped in controversy.
Leicester’s Aaron Ramsey was sent off with a straight red card for a heavy challenge in the first half, but his blushes were spared by Ricardo Pereira’s equaliser in the second half.
Therefore, Lampard will not have to contend with the Burnley loanee on Saturday, but Marti Cifuentes’ side still pose a huge threat to the Sky Blues’ unbeaten start.
Oxford boss Gary Rowett praised Leicester’s Harry Winks after the game for his impact off the bench, and with Cifuentes likely to return Winks to his starting XI on Saturday, the Coventry midfielders will have to be at their very best.
In EFL Analysis’ Championship score predictions for gameweek 6, we believe it will be a 3-1 win to Leicester in the M69 derby affair, but Lampard will be desperate to prove that wrong and preserve Coventry’s stellar start.
