Yes, we know the transfer window is closed, but does that mean the rumour mill stops spinning? Absolutely not. Here are all the biggest stories right now in our latest Championship transfer round-up.
Now that the dust has settled on all those deadline day deals in the Championship, we’ve begun digging into where clubs in the second tier stand financially.
Obviously, there are some teams in the Championship that still have work to do, too. Whether that be free transfers or thinking ahead to January, there are lots of rumours swirling right now.
So much so, that we decided to bring our Championship transfer round-up back as we’ve got plenty to share with you. Here are the latest stories from the last couple of days in the second tier.

Championship transfer round-up: Middlesbrough’s PSR situation explained amid Finn Azaz sale
Middlesbrough had a really successful transfer window in the end, keeping hold of Hayden Hackney and recruiting wisely. Turns out, Steve Gibson now has a £60m buffer in terms of PSR after some smart business over the last couple of years.
One player who did move on is Finn Azaz, joining Southampton for £12m. Boro’s Head of Football Kieran Scott has commented on Azaz’s departure, revealing that the player felt fans on Teesside didn’t like him.
Meanwhile, a player who arrived at Boro on deadline day, Alan Browne, has explained his motives for joining. Turns out Rob Edwards was key to persuading him to switch. Browne was also unhappy at being pushed out at Sunderland, feeling he deserved a chance to prove himself in the top flight.
Hull City sign Ronaldinho’s son as Acun Ilicali helps financial status
Despite a transfer fee ban this summer, Hull City did plenty of business, mainly free agents and loan deals. Hull’s latest addition is Joao Mendes, the son of Brazilian legend Ronaldinho.
Hull may well feature in our Championship transfer round-up more often, after Acun Ilicali’s £14.5m cash injection. However, our finance expert Adam Williams did suggest there is a bigger problem down the line for the Tigers, who have huge operating losses.
Speaking of Ilicali, he’s been sanctioning the signing of ex-Hull players at Maribor, one of the other clubs he owns. Oscar Zambrano and Jean Michael Seri joined the Slovenian club this week.
Meanwhile, Abu Kamara has explained why he left Hull City this summer. Turns out he couldn’t ignore the appeal of a move to La Liga to join Getafe.

Wrexham, Birmingham City and West Brom looking at Dele Alli
It warms our heart to include a positive story about Dele Alli in our Championship transfer round-up. The former Tottenham Hotspur man is looking for a new club after being released by Como, and it sounds like Wrexham are keen on Alli. Birmingham City and West Brom may also be interested.
Still, given West Brom’s PSR status being so close to the edge, maybe splashing out on Alli’s wages wouldn’t be the best idea.
The next player West Brom sell to balance the books could be Isaac Price, who has suitors in the Premier League. We are told the likes of Burnley, Brentford, Leeds United, Crystal Palace, and Fulham are all keen.
Championship transfer round-up: Bristol City block move, Josh Windass motives, Blackburn Rovers’ new star
As always, we conclude our Championship transfer round-up with a quick look at the rest of the reports and rumours in the league. First up, Sinclair Armstrong wanted to join Goztepe, but Bristol City turned down an offer of £868,000.
Josh Windass has spoken about why he left Sheffield Wednesday, with Dejphon Chansiri breaking a promise. But, the Wrexham man insists Chansiri does care about Sheffield Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers’ new boy Andri Gudjohnsen is on fire… for Iceland. He bagged a goal against France this week and looks like he could finally be the goalscorer Rovers desperately need.
We also did some digging into Coventry City’s financial situation. The club spent £40m on acquiring the CBS Arena this summer, but struggled to do much business in the transfer market.
Turns out the two things are separate, and that the Sky Blues simply prioritised keeping Jack Rudoni and Haji Wright instead of new signings. We’re told that this could help keep Frank Lampard at Coventry this season, even if Premier League clubs come calling.
