The season is nearly over, which means one thing: Transfer time! Here’s the latest deals to keep your eyes on with our Championship transfer round-up for the week.

While the Championship play-offs head towards their conclusion with Sheffield United and Sunderland set for the big final at Wembley later this month, other clubs in the second tier have more important matters to attend to.

On the one hand, clubs throughout the EFL have until May 17th to begin contract discussions with existing players who are about to hit the end of their deal next month.

And, we also know when the summer transfer window will be open this year, with two separate windows to consider.

So, it’s not surprising our Championship transfer round-up is starting early this summer, and here are all the key sagas to get to grips with right now.

Norwich City make first signing of the summer

Norwich City may still be looking for their next manager and dealing with the imminent departure of Jack Wilshere from the coaching staff, but they have made some progress in the transfer market.

Manchester City starlet Jacob Wright joins the Canaries on a permanent deal for just £2.3m, after impressing on loan at Carrow Road in the second half of the season.

We broke the news of Norwich’s intention to trigger Wright’s purchase clause last month, and they have now managed to get the deal sorted.

Burnley lose key defender on free transfer

It’s far less good news for recently-promoted Burnley, though, who are now going to lose CJ Egan-Riley on a free transfer to Strasbourg.

The 22-year-old has been immense for the Clarets this season at the heart of the defence, and Burnley are disappointed to see Egan-Riley depart.

It could be the first of a string of frustrating stories for Burnley this summer, with more exits expected, including another free transfer with Josh Brownhill likely to leave.

Birmingham City start work on assembling promotion-ready squad

Birmingham City are wasting no time in getting their squad ready for the second tier. Indeed, we’ve a feeling they’ll be a team we talk about regularly in our weekly Championship transfer round-up.

They are preparing for the arrival of Phil Neumann right now, after a deal was agreed back in January.

Meanwhile, we are told Birmingham want to sign Mark Travers to be their new number one. The Bournemouth ‘keeper impressed on loan at Middlesbrough this season.

A deal for Kwame Poku could be getting closer, too, with the Peterborough United star available for nothing this summer. Other clubs are keen, though.

Derby County and Blackburn fighting over League One star

In-keeping with the theme of League One action, Lincoln City star Ethan Erhahon is hot property right now. As it stands, Derby County and Blackburn are thought to be leading the race for the 24-year-old.

Other interested parties include Preston, Plymouth, Millwall, and Oxford United.

Lincoln firmly expect their current transfer record to be broken by any Erhahon sale. That figure currently stands at £640,000 for the sale of Harry Toffolo back in 2020.

Multiple EFL clubs looking at National League talent

There’s plenty of talent further down the EFL ladder, as proven by the rise of Sutton United starlet Jack Taylor.

He’s been a shining light in the back end of the season for the National League side, and has now caught the eye of a whole host of clubs further up the pyramid.

The likes of Portsmouth, Millwall, and Bristol City are keen on Taylor. But, so are Tottenham Hotspur and MK Dons, among others, with clubs from all levels interested in snapping up the 20-year-old.

Jerry Yates will leave Swansea City

We complete our Championship transfer round-up for this week with a look at the situation regarding Jerry Yates. The veteran striker has just completed a successful loan spell with Derby County this season.

We can reveal that Swansea don’t intend to keep Yates and will find him a new club. However, while a return to Derby is not impossible, it’s not thought to be the most likely avenue.

Blackburn Rovers, Hull City, and QPR are all keen. A move to the MLS could also be on the cards.
