Championship transfer round-up as Chris Wilder eyes first signing and Birmingham City snubbed

Add as preferred source on Google

We didn’t think we’d see a story about Chris Wilder in a Championship transfer round-up again, but here we are. What a treat!

The Championship really is never far away from a moment of chaos and drama, and we love it. This week, the red half of Sheffield has managed to outdo the blue half, somehow.

After a horrendous start to the season, Sheffield United sacked Ruben Selles. Now, Chris Wilder is back, and the Blades fanbase is pretty happy about his return, to say the least.

It’s the Bramall Lane mob where we begin this week’s Championship transfer round-up, and it sounds like Wilder is already making moves there.

Championship transfer round-up: Sheffield United rehire Chris Wilder and his first target is clear

The Sheffield United and Wilder relationship is a crazy one, but getting him back really does make sense. Now, it seems Wilder has his first transfer target already.

It’s said Sheffield United want to sign Amario Cozier-Duberry. The problem is, he’s currently on loan at Bolton Wanderers, and flying there we might add. The Blades plan to persuade Brighton to recall him in January and send him to them instead.

There are plenty of winners and losers in this Chris Wilder return story. One player who may be concerned is Louie Barry, who signed for the Blades purely because of Ruben Selles. So, will Wilder get the best out of the Aston Villa loanee or will he be cast aside?

Sheffield Wednesday youngsters promoted to first-team squad

Things aren’t going much better for Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile. A dismal 3-0 home defeat to Bristol City had Henrik Pedersen very frustrated this weekend.

But, he has just boosted his threadbare squad by promoting four Sheffield Wednesday youngsters to the first-team. Ernie Weaver, Reece Johnson, Logan Stretch, and Jarvis Thornton have moved to the senior dressing room after impressing.

Elsewhere, Dejphon Chansiri is talking to investors, but it’s unclear how promising those talks are. And, Sheffield Wednesday fans plan to boycott the Steel City derby in November, in what could be their biggest show of opposition yet.

Birmingham City miss out on Craig Dawson

Birmingham City suffered a poor defeat to Stoke City at the weekend, leaving their promotion hopes in tatters. It’s early days, but it would appear the Blues need more time to put together the ingredients for that promotion push.

They’re not helped by the fact that Craig Dawson has rejected Birmingham City’s approach this week. Birmingham City offered Dawson a £1m deal but he is still considering his options elsewhere.

To rub further salt into the wounds, Chuba Akpom doubled down on his decision to snub Birmingham for Ipswich. Apparently, he much preferred the style of play Kieran McKenna was utilising at Ipswich.

Championship transfer round-up: Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Portsmouth’s new signing, Middlesbrough loanee shines

We wrap up our Championship transfer round-up with some of the smaller (but no less important) stories from the last few days.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has joined Caykur Rizespor on loan. He was wanted by Leicester City and Coventry City this summer but opted for a move abroad.

Mjallby’s Abdoulie Manneh has agreed to join Portsmouth, though there is some confusion around this. The Swedish side had no idea any deal had been agreed, but a £4.2m fee has been mooted.

Meanwhile, a new Middlesbrough signing is shining in the MLS. Adilson Malanda will join Boro in January, but has just managed to keep Lionel Messi quiet in his recent outing.

And finally, it has emerged that Wrexham did contact Christian Eriksen this summer. The former Spurs and Man Utd man has just signed for Wolfsburg.
